Player Watch #21: Callum Coleman-Jones - out for season after suffering Achilles rupture vs CFC on GoodFriday - go well CCJ

You could see him really trying hard contest after contest.

Very pleasing to see that given that 'effort' has been an issue with some senior players this year.

We now need to see what he can do at the highest level and no better time to start than this Sat night - X has had a good string of games now and we have seen what he can and can't do in the ruck - time to see what CCJ can and can't do as well.
The question is does he come in as the 2nd forward or No.1 Ruck?

I really want us to end this insanity of playing Goldy as the 2nd Key Forward, so for mine it’s either CCJ as the No.1 Ruck and both X and Goldy out or he plays 2nd Forward and Goldy rucks.

The best part of that highlights package was to seen him clunk a few contested marks.

Don’t think we’re a two ruck team. Has to come in as the sole ruck.
Interested to know if you would drop both X and Goldy?

I agree I don’t think the 2 rucks is doing us any favours, but I just don’t think Noble has the balls to make the call.

Yes I would. It's just not working. Neither of them can play forward.

Both.

As much as I love Goldy. Unfortunately the hard call has to be made.

We’re on the bottom of the ladder and need to get games into the crop that’s going to be around for our next flag tilt.

Browsing Frankston's list, their rucks don't appear to be former AFL players.

So a good day statistically from CJ but not sure he was up against equivalent opposition.
Id like him to play this week on the basis hes probably the 22nd most talented bloke on the list whose available.

Copy paste this into the Tom Powell thread.

That's true.
Sorry KC not intending to be a smartarse there, there isn't a hugely deep pool in the ruck space I reckon which is why so many sit on the merry go round and you can really only judge them from what they put up, even if it is against lower opposition. I guess the expectation is higher they deliver, but when they do it can't be discounted IMO

All good it's true Xerri posted some good numbers last year.

I haven't actually rated his 2022 that highly but that lines up with also not extrapolating any great AFL promise from CCJ's VFL numbers in isolation.

That said at least they both show enough endurance and smarts to amass a bit of the ball at that level. Much better than hearing they are struggling to break the 10 possession threshold.

Pretty good career in being a back up ruck these days, that’s for sure.

I think it's a net positive we have a couple young developing rucks to have a dip, and what we paid for it is overstated.
