Player Watch #21: Noah Balta - Signed Until 2032

I know it was a tough game to be a forward for us, but I am starting to wonder if trying to turn him into a forward is worth it?

He's gone from being the most promising young key defender in the comp to a typical young key forward who struggles to get involved in the game.

I know we have no KPF depth and plenty of KPD depth, but if we persevere with this experiment too long we may ruin him.

I think he's quite similar to Darcy Moore. He's a gun key defender who can have an impact when thrown forward on occasion, but is a much more natural defender.
Play him at CHB ,,,ain’t contributing as a swingman

Get the Richmond team board. Take one permanent marker. Write the name Noah Balta at full back. Get a new team board after 10 years and put his name on a magnet instead.
From February. I'll repost this every few months.

I've gone from annoyed to pissed off that Balta is playing forward.

JR#8 was our swingman last night. FFS.

Balta looks a bit lost at Key forward at times especially last night, but if he is earmarked at the long term solution then he will just have to play through it and continue to improve and figure out how to play the role, granted we didn't have too many entries either. Alternatively if you swing him back with Gibcus and Balta we have our KPD sorted for the next decade

give the kid a break, a few weeks ago we were singing his praises.

He has the talent to be a gun forward, let him develop in the ONe position so he can learn his craft.
Better not be watching lynch play or he will end up delearning how to play forward.

Can handle him bring a little inconsistent whilst developing , however his defensive efforts in the majority of his games of late have been unacceptable , just woeful .

Yeah, probably just part of his ongoing development. He's still a big puppy really. The physicality will happen as he finds his feet through experience - not a real problem at this stage.
SO lynch who is on 10x times the salary is better ?
Lynch puts his body on the line in every single contest. Get off his back.

When he is 1.5 mtr behind every contest. A player of his wage and size should be taking 10 + marks a game!
When he gets close to performing vs his pay grade ill lay off.

It's really not the job of a key forward to play on his opponent. Yes, he needs to make a contest if the ball is not to his advantage, but his job is to move away from his direct opponent, and the job of our ball carrier is to honour that movement. If Lynch really is 1.5 metres behind every contest like you say (which of course he's not), then the problem lies more with the delivery of the football to our forwards, which is clearly one of our big issues atm.

Is Lynch delivering what we want and what we need - definitely not. But when we're getting smashed in the clearances and our delivery system into the forward 50 has become very dysfunctional, let's not throw the baby out with the bath water. And let's definitely not turn on our players just because it feels nice to vent and scapegoat on someone.

Lol no. If lynch is 1.5m behind his direct opponent, either he is playing from behind to start in which case how is the midfield supposed to deliver it to him, or he is so slow or reading the ball so poorly that his opponent is overtaking him on the lead.

Stop making excuses for his pathetic performances since 2019. For a player on his money to have only kicked over 40 once in 3 years (and over 50 twice in his whole career) is not good enough.

He has lost form, timing seems out in marking contests, kicking, everything.

He’ll get it back though, too much talent to play like he did on the weekend for any length of time.

I still think he’ll make a very good kpf, has all the tools, but won’t be surprised or disappointed if we throw him back in the short term, just to get some touch back

I mean he is always behind the flight of the ball, except when he is on the lead, and that is a very rare sight.

a player of his stature should be taking marks.

Hope he can bounce back from a dreadful night , was bloody deplorable , dropped marks , however that wasnt the worst as at least he got near it , rest of the time he was unsighted. I’d suggest something I bet dimma won’t do but might help noah. Manage Tarrant , leave him in Melb , short break and give noah the FB role. Games in front of him, can focus and get the job done on the last line , bloody well do it

So we are just ignoring early season form?

He has had poor games down back too, it happens.

If you changed players around every time they have a bad patch, they would never develop.
his early season form is also rubbish except for 1 out of the box game against gws which was ok. vickery had games better than that. even cleve hughes kicked 6 one day.
