I remember that one.

I said to my mate, clumsy by McDonald. He, a non north supporter, said no way that has to be play on.

I can accept when fifty fifty calls go against you sometimes because it’s a matter of discretion - pushes in the back, arm chopping, high contact vs leading with the head. I hate when the umpires seem to forget the rules - running I’ve the mark like the Scott incident. I was nearly apoplectic when Jiath threw the ball and luckily one umpire had to bring it back because they’d physically done the holding the ball signal
Yeah i definitely wasn't blaming the umps on it, your post just had me going through old filing system for free kicks he got and that one came to mind.

There were some shockers, but the one im still left wondering about the most was a high against McDonald i think it was. It was a strange one because the high contact seemed to be Daicos hitting his head into Luke's chest who was coming forward straight (full chested) and granted had some of his own momentum. I was in two minds if it was or wasn't a free at the time and im still not sure - although im leaning towards technically there but usually paid as play on.
I reckon that’s a free…..clumsy by LMac

Naicos had 19 by 3/4 time, then got another 10 when will was off. He also got 6 of Collingwoods total 24 free kicks (25%), and almost 1/2 as many free kicks as the entire north Melbourne team (in fact he got twice as many free kicks in the second half as north got total in the second half)

Willphil was very good considering.
He got 20% of his disposals via the umpire.

It’s sh*t like this that starts to erode the Everest sized pile of runs on the board. Disappointing…own it. It was a f*ck up.
Clarko was spot on. Wilphil was spent. He played more game time in 3 quarters than Powell did in 4 and was only slightly behind Wardlaw. Collingwood were always gonna run out the game and Daicos is an absolute freak when it comes to hard running at the back end of games.

Good observation about the TOG%.

It's up there with the time Brad Scott released the tag on Dangerfield at 3/4 time when we had a 5 goal lead.

Hard to top our highly paid football department deciding that Jarred Polec of all players could be an effective tagger and then proceed to try it on Patrick Cripps.

IIRC, that was just Rhyce Shaw making a point and testing Polec's team commitment. Polec didn't do too badly on Cripps, but failed the team commitment test by whinging about having to play the role.

Cost us the game.

Was idiotic.

And ultimately Polec was right.

Didn’t Cripps have such a big first quarter that they switched the matchup in the 2nd quarter of that game?

Polec was right in a general sense, he wasn't suited to being a tagger, but his unwillingness to just once demonstrate he would take one for the team just demonstrated that he wasn't one of us.
He left Brisbane to play for the side he went for as a kid.

He left there to play for us for money.

Of course he wasn’t one of us.

His unwillingness to ever contest an aerial contest should have been a sign.

There were lots of signs. But accepting the tagging role was his chance to change the messaging.

We're all essentially on the same page here. He was a bust because he wasn't a team player, which is a pity because he was so highly talented.

Daicos was doing everything in the book to wear Will out, false runs to the bench, etc... anything to make Will have to put in extra yards, say what you want of him he is a consummate professional and will do a mountain of work to get it done and as Smoocher pointed out he is a freak runner because of the preperation he puts in,

Now this isnt a knock on will, if anything its a backhanded compliment because he just kept his head up and kept chipping away, but he know the level he has to reach to male a full game of it now. he also chowed he also has the ticker to put the work in all though is coming from a fair way further back,

This is a good insight and you have to trust the coaches call. Albeit in hindsight it looks to have cost us the game, despite Clarko denying it had any pivotal influence.

Great game from Will. Hope he gets a longer run at it.
