Also from the club,

Geelong has made one change for Saturday’s Preliminary Final against Brisbane.

After missing the Qualifying Final against Port Adelaide with illness, Geelong's vice-captain Tom Stewart returns to the selected side.

Stewart replaces Zach Tuohy who has been omitted, with Tuohy joining Sam De Koning and Ted Clohesy as the three emergencies.

Geelong will take on Brisbane in the Second Preliminary Final at the MCG, with the opening bounce at 5.15pm on Saturday. Tickets are still available via Ticketek.

The winner of Saturday's game will book their spot in the 2024 Toyota AFL Grand Final, to be played against the winner of the First Preliminary Final between Sydney and Port Adelaide.

Cats fans can catch all the action live and free on Channel 7, with coverage beginning at 4.30pm AEST ahead of the opening bounce at 5.15pm AEST. You can also catch all the pre-match build up from 4.00pm on K rock Football.

Well you wouldn’t have got the detailing job with your eyes being painted on and all.
Coming from you and your tripe about Duncan.
I'm simply not rating someone outside our best side as being ready.

Happy with that, mullin has been solid and the game has passed touhy.

Makes sense. We are going to beat stodgy Bris with speed and gut running. Mullin did all he could with running hard, sticking to his man and a couple of pin point passes. i like it.

Ballsy, love it, let’s go.

Does tonights selections help put to bed the notion that Scott favours veterans over youth?

Mullin retains his spot ahead of the retiring Tuohy
Hawkins & Guthrie not even listed as emergencies, plus we see Clohesy named an emergency ahead of Parfitt

We've got 5 premiership players from 22 that are on our list but aren't listed to play on Saturday night, 3 not even emergencies

Seems Scott & co aren't scared to pull the selection trigger

Yeah yeah I tipped Tuohy out for Mullin and if it was up to me he’d be ahead of Duncan as well but we’ll never know I guess. I’ll take the MC’s know how over yours thankfully.

Geelong’s rock solid defence

Most fans were in awe at the 138 points that the Cats piled up when beating the Power on their home deck in week one of the finals. That makes sense — goals are exciting, and intercept marks aren't.

But over the closing stretches of the season it was the other end of the ground that powered the Cats towards this vaulted position. Geelong's defence has long been a strength for Chris Scott. But with shifting parts in the forward half of the ground, this strength has become a reliance.

Led by Zach Gutrhrie, Mark Blicavs, Jack Henry and Jake Kolodjashnij, the Cats have effectively shut down their defensive 50. The defence has shifted away from attacking hard from defence — the Cats sit near league average at scoring from intercepts over the past five games.

The Cats sometimes move a spare player back from stoppages after the contest breaks free — often former All-Australian defender Tom Stewart. This creates an extra defensive number to prevent sides from scoring in transition. They also don't overcommit on the counter attack and communicate effectively. They get most of the basics right in defence — key for a side who is primed to succeed in September.

That defensive ability has kept them in games where they don't win territory. If they do manage to win the field position and possession battle it can blow teams out of the water.

I tell you what, after checking out those data points, I'm very happy GWS got the boot.
They were a huge threat, bad luck for them they choked.

IF the game was being played at KP, then I could see them going Tuohy ahead of Mullin, but on the bigger MCG then I can understand going the speedster who can hopefully take advantage of the space available

Having said that, I think he's the most likely sub option looking at our bench:

17 - Lawson Humphries, 34 - Oisin Mullin, 45 - Brad Close, 4 - Tanner Bruhn, 22 - Mitch Duncan

Definately! Good sub. Stay warm Oisin.

Am surprised Clohsey is an emergency ahead of Jhye Clark but it's swings and roundabouts. Bring on the game, this is been an exhausting week at work.
Clark will make it eventually but Clohesy is who you’d want in the trenches right now, got a bit of mongrel in him.

I just want to be on the record of saying that I like us better with Tuohy in the side..

But MC obviously know best...
