Reasonable argument
I can only speak for myself but the criticism I have is
A) certain players get a free pass (Marnus) where selection integrity becomes questionable
And
B) the selectors lack of planning for the future is strikingly poor (and also predictable)
When would you have dropped Labs, and who for?

He was playing as a batsman anyway regardless it’s just whether he was bowling. Makes zero difference to the team it’s the same top 6
We don't know that at all. In fact i recall you yourself rubbishing the idea of playing Marsh as a specialist bat. Just don't get the point of announcing the team now when we could do it at the toss. We need any edge we can get right now!

Trust me I wouldn’t be playing him as a specialist bat- Inglis is in better form as a bat, but they always were going to. Doesn’t mean I agree with them doing it.

If India weren’t aware of this line up being a certainty, then they have some serious issues.
how would they know for certain Marsh was playing when he's been under an injury cloud and we've called up Beau Webster. What's wrong with playing a few mind games and keeping them second guessing?

Nothing specifically wrong, but no real reason to do it. Marsh was almost a certainty to play, as was Boland.

I disagree this was a given. In fact i would suggest playing Marsh as a specialist bat would've been a leftfield selection. Though a shout out to big_e who first mooted this as a possibility a few days ago.

When - I think the justification for his selection ended last Test. So from now

Who - anyone - Konstas Inglis Renshaw etc

Players were often dropped in years past when their form was crap. It doesn't mean the end of their careers.
As much as i think Marnus is pretty cooked he was always going to get a 2nd test.

Of the players you mentioned

Konstas is not ready

Renshaw is no better

Inglis is not a top 3 bat.

If he fails again then i am fine with shuffling the order around to get Inglis in but part of the reason he is being given the long leash is the lack of options.

I’m not suggesting it would end his career.

Renshaw - really?
Konstas- not against it, a fair chunk of this board is though.
Inglis - at 3?

So for this match, essentially the selectors have stuck with him for one match longer than you would’ve.

So what happens if Marnus fails this test and the 3rd and 4th and 5th
Will you find fault with other options?

Renshaw lol the bloke scores one score in 12 months let’s bring him in? I love Konstas but that’s just asking for trouble against the best bowling side in the planet. Inglis maybe

Issue is the next tour is SL- Marnus is one of the best 2-3 players of spin we have. As long as he doesn’t completely fail I’d probably give him the series to find form

If Marnus fails this test, result depending, we may see a change. For example, if he fails, and we lose, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Konstas opening and McSweeney at 3. If he fails, and we win, and Marsh still has a niggle, we may see marsh/head at 3, with Webster or Inglis a possibility.

If he fails and we win easily, I’d expect him to get another chance.

Picking Konstas would be ridiculous. The kid is talented but he doesn’t even know his own game yet. Pick him and he fails could ruin him
It's all good letting youngsters develop their game at lower levels when the Test team is winning and there's seasoned players ready to replace them but we don't have that luxury any more.

We have McSweeney and Head who bowl and Smith can bowl some pies if need be. Marnie’s rubbish is there too.

We shouldn’t need a 5th bowler

They're all part timers, Marsh is a genuine option which we would need imo, I don't like the idea of 3 or 4 part timers making up for an all rounder's bowling.

I’d say we’ll see him picked sooner rather than later.

Hopefully Harris gets a ton this week end for the Vics, the Australian selectors bring him in for the 3rd test.Makes a duck and drops 3 catches and a BF highlight could be Luke Parker letting us all know he is no good.lol.

Whilst I’m disappointed with the last result, and I’ll admit we could’ve begun blooding more players sooner, I really don’t understand the level of hatred here.

This Australian team have been pretty successful. For the most part they seem like nice guys, they cop it from the opposition, they don’t complain, they get an unlucky result, they don’t complain. They don’t sledge. They seem like consummate professionals.

Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon, hell, even Neser and ScoBo would be in most teams.

I just really don’t understand what most of you want - this has been a good team, they’ve done very well. You all support AFL clubs - if the same level of criticism was applied half the coaches/senior players would be out of a job.

Scorn, criticism and overreactionary babble.

Lyon just bowls more hardly a big deal. Green isn’t available so not sure what you want to do. Marsh was one of the few that looked half competent in the first test with the bat

not necessarily..He is young and has plenty of time

virtually every successful batsman Australia has had in the last 40 years has been dropped during their career

Thankfully he hopefully doesn’t make a ton and can’t play another shield game till after the last test
