One advantage Foley seems to have is that, unlike Harvey, he's been rated the better of the two by people who don't support his team on here.

reason for this is because richmond has played several friday night games and free to air televised games so other supporters have been able to see foley...in contrast north has had minimal coverage and therefore oppostion supporters dont get to see harvey in action

Who cares?

Foley showed that he can't handle a tag. Brady Rawlings made a mess of him yesterday, most teams haven't bothered to tag him until lately so I expect the bot to struggle a bit from now on.

Harvey cops a tag week in week out and until this year he tended to struggle a bit with it.

This year Harvey is not only breaking the tag, but smashing it.

Foley only looks good because he shines out in amongst a pile of shit!

Ablett, Harvey and Judd are now the three favourites for the Brownlow with Ablett paying $3.25 and Harvey and Judd both paying $7.

The market has got it right.

Any of you idiots still think Foley should be in the top 3 (or is fit to tie the boot laces of Brent Harvey?)

Sometimes it can be draining being so far ahead of the bigfooty general public in football knowlegde.

Ablett and Harvey are going toe to toe each week staking their claim as the best midfielder in the AFL this year (and probably best player, but Cornes gets a look in).

They are neck and neck.

If any thread sums up the way North are rated by football people, this is it for mine. Harvey is ripping the balls off sides consistently. It's the best year by any North player since Carey in '98. I feel sorry for his opponents.

Cornes? Surely you dont mean Kane?

So much for being "so far ahead of the bigfooty general public in football knowledge"

Of course he's talking about Chad. He plays in the midfield now.

Unnecessary for he to specify.
No he doesnt. Last week play across the HBF line. He rotates from game to game.

Read it again. Chad. Ablett and Harvey are clearly the best two midfielders of 2007 at this point in time, but if you are talking best overall player in the AFL (regardless of position) then Chad also has a claim.

Harvey is definately playing as a midfielder. He is getting heaps of the ball all over the ground.
WHat he is doing so well, is starting play in defence, and getting it back in the midfield/fwd half of the ground and then hitting forwards on the chest or kicking goals himself.

He is working super hard every game in 2007 and is fantastic to watch.

How can you judge

There are three types of midfielders in the modern game.

1) Attacking Midfielder (Goal Kicking)

2) Clearance Kings (In And Under Type Player)

3) Play Makers (Match Winning Ability)

Each of the above names should be rated by each catagory.
No problem.

Category 1, Harvey > Foley

Category 2, Harris > Foley

Category 3, Grant > Foley

Chad Cornes is easily in the top couple of midfielders for the year. Would be a dead set cert to be picked as All Australian Ruck/Rover being 4th overall in disposals, leading the kicks and i imagine would be close to leading inside 50's. Also to the Hawthorn supporter on page 4 who decided on a whim that Luke Hodge was the best Utility in the game...... um no!

judd,ablett,bartel,harvey,mitchell
Lappin is playing quite well too,but needs to play a full season.
Does anyone have stats for clearances, goals, contested possessions,Disposal efficiency?

Gary Ablett Jnr, Brent Harvey and Chris Judd.

Bartel isn't too far behind, but the other three are more damaging.
After Bartel there is a bit of a gap to the next best.

Judd averages the most possessions
Boomer averages the most goals
Ablett sits in between in both catergories.

All three are regularly getting hard tags and smashing them.

I don't think Harvey is in the top 3 best but he is sure performing in the top 3 best thats for sure.
