Not trying to be too biased but Ashcroft, owens and Humphrey all had minor impact this weekend. Ashcroft in himself has had more mid teen disposal games then dominant games and seriously shouldn’t be the favourite at all, sheezels had a much better season by a long way.
Yes, your bias is showing. Ashcroft, Owens, and Humphrey each had way more disposals than Sheezel this past weekend.

Some blokes are saying Daicos is the best player in the comp now........ Sheez should be a shoe in for rising star, only thing stopping him is that he doesn't play for a big club! Gee I'd love to see him take it, the club best first year player and the Syd Barker out!

Byron Pickett proved you don’t have to play for a big club. However, we were a “successful” club when he was named RS. Unfortunately, Harry’s time is neither big nor successful. At the end of the day, I believe both Ashcroft and Harry would be worthy winners - at this point in time. Plenty of time for either of them to forge ahead. Who knows, a Wardlaw might spoil their party. I don’t really row in with the angst here.

If sheezel won bnf but not rising star, demand a priority pick.

Look I'm happy with sheezel, but if a top 4 team got access due to father son when the bottom team didn't, and that player wins the Rising Star and the subsequent player the bottom team picks wins the bnf.... it is a putrid look. Corrupt and unfair. And having no access to the number 1 talent 2 years running with them winning the RS would have occured

Honestly, while I will be suprised if he doesnt win it, I'm just thrilled to have him. Hard to find this kind of gold, and for once I feel like we were not hurt by having our actual first selection taken away.

Still amazes me how little gain we have had points wise from our own FS over the last decade, and how compromised other FS picks have been to our rebuilding drafts.

I found another comparison that really shows the insanity of the RS conversation this year.

One of the following comparisons is between the 2022 winner who received a maximum of 60 votes vs the 3rd place getter who polled 35. The other is the 2023 comparison between the apparently even top 2. Let's see if anyone can pick which is which.

Has a rookie ever won a B&F in recent times?
Not sure, I dont believe Sheez will be in the top 3 at years end. Arguably Top 5. Which is a tremendous effort and crazy when you think about it, just how good he is and how much impact he has had in his first season. Unbelievable

Love Sheez, there is so much to look forward to and he's just got great character, but I don't think they will give him the B&F, even if he does deserve it.

It's a great accolade for sure and would give him confidence, but I don't think they would want him to feel like he is the best player at the club in his first year. Him narrowly missing out, i believe, would motivate him to go all out to better himself next year and hopefully beyond. 2nd year blues is a thing, and I think that drive could push him through it.

Larkey is having a great year, and I think if it is close at the end of the season, voting would tip towards him.

It sounds a bit conspiracy theorist now that I'm writing it all down, but they're my thoughts.

Sheez will win other awards to give him confidence too.

Best First Year
RS
and probably media awarded crap too.

To protect the integrity of the award, I don’t think votes should ever be engineered for or against any player for any reason - certainly not for the purposes of messaging to a player to not get too big for their boots!

Nick is a star and will be a hall of famer if he stays fit, but my god there’s some hyperbole around him. A bloke rang up SEN this morning saying he will end up being the best player ever

2020: finished 17. Missed out on Ugle-Hagen (WB 7th finished) or Thrillthorpe. If U-H is available Adelaide choose between the two KPFs. North pick a KPF and our structure is better preserved. I am happy with Phillips and was thrilled when we picked him but structurally it would have made a lot more sense to pick between the two KPFs mentioned above.

2021: we finished 18. We went with (what we thought was) the highest rated player. Daicos (Collingwood finish 17th) was considered the best player by many in a football world split between the two. WB pick up Darcy (WB finish 5th), CW pick up Daicos for loose change.

2022: BL (BL finished 6th) pick up Ashcroft for change. We sit pretty with HS and GW.

2023: GC look tipped to get Walter (who would be in the top 3 players on our list) for nothing, as well as a host of other NGA players.
