Very tough initiation to be playing that role in a defence that hasn’t played together, your leader in Corr providing nothing and the ball coming in with no pressure.

I won’t put the rose coloured glasses on, because he made mistakes and there were times he needed to compete better. But I also won’t throw out the baby with bath water based on today.
Corr was horrendous, not just his defensive efforts but seemed to be caught in no-man’s-land most of the game.

He definitely gets dropped before Pink who at least have some decent 1v1’s and took the occasional interception.

CCJ level athleticism which spells trouble.

No closing speed. No vertical jump.

He’ll continue to get smashed by athletic forwards.
He shouldn’t be on athletic forwards and won’t need to when Logue returns.

He may not make it, but I wouldn’t be stamping his papers based on yesterday given our lack of depth down back.

Kallan Dawson looked all at sea in his first hit out at AFL level and showed something yesterday.

And I will correct you, no one has CCJ levels of athleticism, he is own his own with total uncoordination lol

Dawson at least has an athletic profile, if not the size to be a true KPD.

The days of hulking KPD’s are gone.

The worrying thing is that seems to be a trend with Corr.

He runs around like a chook with its head cut off and is always a step behind.

The top line AFL defenders don’t react, they anticipate.

I’ve said it for years that we have far too few players can anticipate the play.

The elite KPD’s play as forwards in the backline.

It’s why Sheezel stands out likes dogs balls.

We can assign all the blame we like to Pink, Corr, Dawson etc. Swap Buckley, Taylor and Himmelberg into our defence yesterday and keep the midfield supply the same, and I wager you have exactly the same outcome. Coniglio, Whitfield, Kelly and Green hitting gaps at space and kicking long to 1:1s to advantage would see any defenders struggle. Pink probably isn't the long term solution at the level, but he won't play against too many better midfield/forward combinations, in too many worse situations than yesterday.

He is probably hurting as bad as anyone bar Goater yesterday as well. BFNAAK, debuting on the big stage and has to deal with supply from a midfield playing against Wardlaw defensively. And that's it

I would probably not be dropping him. But I wouldn't drop Corr or Dawson off yesterday either. I think CCJ for Comben is the obvious change, and you give Pink another chance against Amiss or Taberner, neither of whom is Jesse Hogan, and against their midfield, none of whom are Kelly, Whitfield or Green.

Corr pissed me off because he cant expect a 1st gamer or 3rd game like Dawson to lead the line.
Wake up you donkey

That saying out for Comben whenever Charlie is ready.

This but without the CCJ extra height

Limited player which again no surprise as he’s been there for years

But should stay there
Molly meldrum standing on a ladder would be more beneficial height wise than your mate ccj.

And even if molly fell backwards his meters gained would still be more than ccjs - (yes minus)12m!

Key backs cannot be chopped and chanaged too quickly, these games takes a few games to get into rythm. From a development pov, comben coming in at around rd 6 to 8 will be perfect. Corr coming out is fine with me as he is not part of our longterm plan.

Logue, dawson, pink are medium term prospects. Comb seems the best longterm option. So in 2026, we need to splurging for a marquee keyback on big money deals. High end free agents defenders are slightly easier and cheaper than key fwd.

I thought Pink was decent. As Flawed Genius said the quality of GWS supply had their forwards at advantage pretty much every time. Our 1990s defenders got brutalised on their day, it happens.

As an aside Coniglio is something else. Breaks tackles, runs at pace yet hits razor sharp passes.

I'm kind of shocked to see people blaming Pink for their big forwards kicking a lot of goals yesterday. It's like posters on here think this is the 1980s and every kick is a long bomb to a contest where big forwards go head to head with big defenders in a contest of strength. Toby could not possibly have stopped 90% of those forward entries. He was perfectly serviceable.

And even then every top key defender got taken apart on their day and vice versa.

Second banana will be comben

This bloke is merely a placeholder who is a very limited player. Josh walker 2.0
I didn’t rate Walker or Magoo but both look like triple brownlow medalists in comparison.

Will ask the masses to name me one elite football trait that Toby has. Elite being yeah you belong at this level. He’s not overly tall and has the dexterity of a B-double.

He is essentially our replacement for Josh Walker. Or to go back a bit further, Luke Delaney. He didn't look out of place to me, but I can't argue that he lacks elite traits.

I think he'll serve as a good depth option while we wait for the younger Dawson to develop. With a fully fit side he'd be playing in the VFL behind Logue, K. Dawson, and Corr. Chances are that Comben overtakes him soon as well. That said there's a spot on an AFL list for him.

The era where forwards kicking 100 goals a year was a not uncommon occurrence (in fewer games).
