Former President Donald Trump: "This is a great day for America. People with extraordinary ability and everything else necessary for success, including future greatness for our country, are finally being rewarded. This is the ruling everyone was waiting and hoping for and the result was amazing. It will also keep us competitive with the rest of the world. Our greatest minds must be cherished and that’s what this wonderful day has brought. We’re going back to all merit-based—and that’s the way it should be!"

What changed Donnie ?

Yeah there’s plenty to criticise Trump for but “draft dodging” isn’t one of them. Those ordinary citizens who refused to be forced into military service and resisted it risking prosecution or having to flee to another country are heroes.

However those in rich positions of power were different. They gained “student exemptions” by going to university (in the 60s university was a more exclusive domain of the rich). Then his daddy paid for a doctor to exaggerate a medical condition to get him exempted from the draft. Other rich kids like George W got a rare admission to the National Guard and exempt from deployment to Vietnam because his daddy was a Congressman. Rush Limbaugh faked anal cysts. Mitt Romney got his Mormon church to issue a rare “missionary exemption”.
Bingo. It's an obvious demonstration of money and influence rather than some sort of peace protest by Trump & co

Trump doesn't get a few pass for paying for a dodgy diagnosis

Fortunate Son is truer today than it ever was.

The conservatives crowing over all this are going to be so angry when this just leads to American colleges having more Asian students.

Reading Harvard’s take on the ruling - whilst they can’t directly use race as a factor in admissions, they can accept in admission interviews an African American has had a disadvantaged upbringing due to race and use that to increase their chance of admission.

So this goes from a legal policy to a behind the scenes policy, looks like the same outcome will happen.

Those are the real “draft dodgers”. I feel for those without money or influence who tried to avoid the draft.
Thought trump faked bone spurs though so would be in the latter group (sons of money and influence)

I had you pegged as more of a Kid Rock kind of guy.
When I'm in the mood for redneck hiphop I go with Lil Nas X thank you very much. Although I've heard that younger generations now only know Billy Ray Cyrus for Old Town Road, and that breaks my heart... my achy breaky heart.
