The transcript shows Trump soliciting aid from a foreign government, asking them to investigate a political rival. That is illegal.

If you read Trump's remarks in the transcript, you'll see he implicates Joe Biden in the situation and asks the Ukrainian government to "look into it".

Not only that, it shows him asking them (Ukraine) to get the US Justice Dept (Barr) involved (“I will get the AG to call you”) aka meddling in order to get the US JD to also go after his political rival - also a very big no-no.

If the Pelosi strategy is to ratchet up the pressure and see how he takes it, if she can provoke him into lashing out and doing something REALLY stupid, that could pay off.

He underestimated her on the shutdown and she took him to the cleaners.

She's very good on these big set pieces of Washington theatre.

All of that, and all of this, and all the rest of the campaign .... Trump chomps on it for breakfast.

His entire raison détre is to be the Centre of Attention, yesterday, today and tomorrow. That moment, this moment and next moment.

After experiencing him now for three years --- clearly none of his opponents can match him for sheer energy, endurance and stamina.

You just have to read all the iterations of this thread.

Non stop entertainment.

Not sure what you're getting at here.

Being the centre of attention isn't always a good thing.

Do you want good government or entertainment? I remember you railing about Gillard and her poor governance, you can't honestly think Trump is running a better government than she did and that was a big issue for you back then.

Being the centre of attention isn't always a good thing.

I remember towards the end of the campaign in 16 watching a Fox focus group wherein every single participant indicated (show of hands) their disapproval of Trump.

But when asked who would win election, they all chorused Trump.

Asked why (by Luntz) they chorused - "He is a celebrity".

It was cold comfort at the time, but after Trump beat Hillary a week later I always remember that I'd heard "why"from that focus group.

Between May 2018 and August 2019, the intelligence community secretly eliminated a requirement that whistleblowers provide direct, first-hand knowledge of alleged wrongdoings. This raises questions about the intelligence community’s behavior regarding the August submission of a whistleblower complaint against President Donald Trump. The new complaint document no longer requires potential whistleblowers who wish to have their concerns expedited to Congress to have direct, first-hand knowledge of the alleged wrongdoing that they are reporting.

The brand new version of the whistleblower complaint form, which was not made public until after the transcript of Trump’s July 25 phone call with the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky and the complaint addressed to Congress were made public, eliminates the first-hand knowledge requirement and allows employees to file whistleblower complaints even if they have zero direct knowledge of underlying evidence and only “heard about [wrongdoing] from others.”

A previous version of the whistleblower complaint document, which the ICIG and DNI until recently provided to potential whistleblowers, declared that any complaint must contain only first-hand knowledge of alleged wrongdoing and that complaints that provide only hearsay, rumor, or gossip would be rejected.

........

Just a cheap tinpot coup by Democrats which as per usual will backfire.

I wasn't marking Trump for governance.

Funny how when whistleblowers implicated Clinton they were cyberterrorists and the information was compromised, yet when whistleblowers implicate Trump they're heroes and the information should result in impeachment.

Funny how the establishment Dems didn't impeach Bush or Cheney for war crimes, and didn't try to impeach Trump for enabling genocide in Yemen or all the other terrible sh*t he's tried to pull, but push for impeachment when someone tries to reveal that Biden's son is corrupt.

I didn’t f*****n employ him. The give away in my comment was lobbyists/ex politicians - hands up who would have them anywhere near your company???
Nevertheless, a company does have the right to run their company. Biden Snr, Obama or Bush didn’t give him the job.

Oh Micky, you are not so fine, this is what you said -

Mick F said:
Biden Jnr had been brought on board, with others, to present a more respectable image.

Oh dear, just exactly how wrong can you be!, he seems like a real scumbag spoiled rich kid, actually he is a middle aged man now!

Completely agree.

For the 2016 election his ability to marry celebrity to populist policies and claims, running against a candidate with a long history, was a huge benefit.

But it will be the 2020 election.

So the whistleblower is someone who was never present in any of the meetings and had just heard stuff from other people.

That sure strengthens the case...
Do you think a prosecution needs to be present during the crime? If so, how would we ever prosecute something like insider trading? I mean, if the prosecution wasn't even present when the crime occurred, surely there's no case, right?

The reality is that the transcript released by the administration reveals illegal conduct. So deal with that before trying to discredit the whistleblower.

Mueller investigation grinds to halt with nothing, a new coup starts, they then change the rules for filing a complaint, put together their thesis full of "somebody saids", and next thing we know Schiff is quoting from it, before the complaint was even filed.

TDS knows no bounds with these people, meanwhile on the streets of California cases of typhus and other medieval diseases hit the thousands of homeless built on the back of a no borders policy and Sanctuary cities where criminals are not even handed over to ICE but released back into the community.

That's some pretty superficial analysis. I mean sure, if you want to boil it all down to 4 words, his name recognition and profile worked in his favour but surely there were more factors at play that just that.

Interesting to note that some voices on the right used to deride Obama for being a "celebrity". Apparently that wasn't a sincere critique. Who knew?

First up - the weird birther stuff goes in the conspiracies board.

Secondly, you know the whistleblower is backed up by reports from people in the room and public information, right?

The CIA changed their whistleblower rules in Aug to include hearsay, and then they drop this on Trump in September. With the altered whistleblower guidelines, the CIA can smear anybody they want in the Trump administration with any kind of lie they want and the agent making it all up will be protected.

But which one of them ordered pizza?

Trump is accused of soliciting aid from a foreign government by asking them to investigate a political rival. That is illegal.

Any argument needs to address that.

Did the WH smear itself when it released the transcript indicating Trump broke the law?
