Konstas is an opener so he has to open.
Inglis is nowhere near a number 3 and doubtful he has the ability to bat higher than 6

Yep for me we can’t weaken our batting more by picking another keeper who albeit in form is a keeper-bat. In Sri Lanka that’s another question as like a Handscomb pick he’d be a horses for courses but not in Australia, it’s Inglis OR Carey

Konstas or not, if the pitch is flat/dry and we think the game might go into a fourth day, we've gotta give a debut to Webster.

He's a much better bowler than Marsh ever was.

I was fine with Marsh holding his spot while he was making runs, but he's not making enough AND he's getting out to all the second string bowlers. I can understand anyone struggling against Bumrah, but Marsh has been dismissed by Reddy, Ashwin, Deep and Siraj too.

I was really hopeful he'd turned a corner and he played some great knocks across his recall, but results are starting to regress to his long term average.

Hope he proves me wrong if he gets picked, but it's Webster time and the selectors need to have the balls to move on guys who are underperforming.

We just are not going to debut 2 blokes at 1-1. If Marsh is fit he’ll play. Webster is no certainty to score anymore runs anyway. It’s where we miss Green who is significantly better in both disciplines than both. He’s a bigger loss than everyone thought

Happy Christmas All.

Expected 38 at the Melbourne Colosseum tomorrow. Curator has prepared another bowler friendly surface for Sam Konstas' debut. The kid says he has certain plans for Bumrah. He's a cool dude.

Gotta say I'd prefer a greenhorn teen started down the order too. But betting Sam wants to open and face the challenge of Bumrah with a new Kooka cherry in his mit.

Openers open, it’s what he’s known since he was about 10. Hopefully our useless captain can win a toss for once

And a Merry Christmas to your good self, and everyone else as well. Eagerly anticipating this test match and Konstas’s debut. Weather sounds great (apart from the heat tomorrow). Hopefully Head gets up, and Australia wins the toss.

Green is fine and is a walk up start in this team nd is till only 25 the best is yet to come

he shits all over Webster and Sutherland . Sutherland can't even get it over 130

Greenie at four and the team is so much better
:100: big e reckons Green and Steve Waugh are on a similar bowling trajectory. Tuggar and he are not in the same street. When Green finishes he will exceed the all round feats of Keith Miller and become Australias greatest of the modern era. Certainly with the bat. I see him pushing Kallis' record too, if he stays fit from now on.

..and make what call given the heatwave conditions on day one? Expect we wont wanna bowl in 38% heat. Bat either for that matter. In fact shi**y conditions in which to play any cricket.

It's probably better for his psyche to get out early to bumrah than to have to wait 6 hours to bat only to get out to him after 3 overs anyway.

That is a BIG call.

At the same stage of their careers (28 tests) Kallis had already hit 4 centuries, and he was about to hit a fifth in his 29th and take his average up to 41. Green has 2 centuries and averages 36. Another 43 centuries looks a long way off. Let’s say he plays 10 years uninterrupted, he needs to average 4 centuries a year to get to that level in terms of big scores.

He had 51 wickets at 27 at the same point as well.
At that point he had just turned 24.
Green is already closer to 26.

Anyone looking to match Kallis is up against it from the beginning - him being statistically one of the greatest cricketers in 150 years of history and all - and when you start from a little bit further behind, you have an even harder job.

Green is a potential gun without doubt. But it’s very questionable whether he can reach that level

No need to catastrophise. Aussies were fine.

5 overs down is NOT fine. Sorry but it’s not. It’s embarrassing worldwide. Need to install in game penalties- 15 runs per over not bowled in a day
