A good eye? we aren't watching the same match. Unless you have watched the last two overs

Played and missed nearly all of the first over.

Best shot in cricket is a play and miss boy it annoys bowlers

Konstas has given this innings some momentum that McSweeney wasn't able to do but they could easily be a wicket or two down.

The Indian bowlers have beaten the bat of both of him and Khawaja more than they have middled them.

So, 45 minutes in and we have seen the following:
- an unconventional and attacking debut opener.
which has resulted in:
  • a significant change in field placement
  • Bumrah appealing for a ball that would have missed wide and high out of desperation.
  • a loss of consistency in line and length from arguably the most in form bowler in the world.
  • taken the focus off Ozzie who has looked a little more comfortable as a result.

I'd say the kids doing ok.

Funnily enough I was watching England’s review of last year’s Ashes series on YouTube a few days ago (basically their version of “The Test”) and Joe Root said that as ugly as some of his attempted reverse ramps looked, they were a clear strategy to try and give the bowlers a different look and to potentially bring about a field change and/or make them bowl where he wanted. Sure they didn’t end up winning that series but it was only a monsoon in Manchester that stopped them.

I forgot how many grumpy old traditionalists Bigfooty has though. Let’s all get stuck into a kid for trying to take on the world’s best bowler and not letting Bumrah just put it in the same spot every ball.
