Am I the only one who thinks the media are going over the top on Sam Konstas on what he has done today? Yes it was a solid knock, there was some good shots, but also there was some lucky shots as well. It was good, but not as good as the Media are talking about
You're right, he got very lucky today, batting like that is not sustainable. But it was his day, it came off.

I'll be interested to see how he adjusts his game in the future.

The media love a good news story rags to riches from a young fella .. i

Take a bow Sam Konstas. Most exciting boxing day in years.
Took a dynamic innovative smart approach and paid dividends.
Kid will take the world by storm
Not sure he is going to build a career as a test opener with the approach he took.
Well done, but Lady Luck was with him today. Just imagine the blowback if he had tickled one of those first ramp attempts through.
Rooster to feather duster can happen pretty quick on test cricket.

Shaun was hampered by injuries the majority of his career was a good player when fit

Mitch though the end is coming fast in the test arena .. still value in the white ball format

When in form, I don't think I have seen someone look more sublime & undismissable as Shaun Marsh (probably Steve Smith in peak years, but he wasn't as classical). Uzzie was close a few seasons back. However it never really translated to test form on a consistent basis.

First-Class

Geoff Marsh: 39.46
Shaun Marsh: 41.20
Mitch Marsh: 33.51

First-Class cricket are matches with a duration of 3 days or more and includes Test cricket.

My goodness.

How does Mitchell actually play any tests at all with that FC average?

That is weak as piss, he deliberately bumped someone, should have been a match ban minimum.

India would have threatened to go home if they did that it was never going to happen.

No you are right but the Australian media especially ch7/fox are useless (we knew this before today)

I'm more impressed with the mindset than anything, a focus on a plan and enjoying the moment moreso than a fear of getting out. He'll improve with exposure & experience. Haven't watched his Sheffield Shield centuries, but have heard they were more traditional.

If he plays a classical drive and nicks off everyone says he's too young and calls for his head. Kahwaja played and missed at 15 separate balls and he's a hero for sticking it out. Kahwaja was also stone dead plumb but hawk eye saved him.
Bumerah had konstas on toast his first 2 overs and kahwaja wouldn't rotate strike.
So he takes an innovative approach. Bumerah puts one wide he ramps. More risk free shot. No different to a play and miss drive but less chance of getting caught if he miss hits. A couple come off Bumerah panics and bowls straight into his zone a couple more shots and India fell apart and the rest is history.
It was tactical nous batting and very rare. Kids a genius. India shit themselves witness Kholi because they'd never seen it before and had no idea how to react.
Maturity and nous beyond his years. A future test captain

It's perhaps a little OTT, but a potentially series defining knock for a 19-year-old on debut in front of 87k is always going to be a big story.

Lady Luck also smiled on Smith who absolutely should have been given twice.
Reclaimed he's genius but ridiculous he wasn't given early shuffling across

You're still running with this even though it's been proven demonstrably incorrect?

Agree. ‘Swinging from the arse’ is not good batting, and good Test bowlers aren’t troubled by that. He has come a long way in a short time, and if he works on his technique may well have a future.

Slater was attacking but was very correct.

It’s even, should be only 2 down but Lab is a drunk fool
We shouldn't have lost 6 wickets but with the pitch showing some variable bounce, swing on offer with the new ball, and the standard of batting this series, we're surely ahead at 6/311.

Australia certainly are not

Poor run rate most of the day
Should have been 500-550 at stumps

Avg run rate in tests from 2010 - 2022 was 3.20.........

Aus run rate today was 3.61.......
