pretty thrilling day of cricket, had everything you could ask for
konstas good debut innings
aus on top slightly, if smith can get aus to 450 thats a good score. unsure how flat the wkt is, but indias batting doesnt scare me vs our bowling attack

We shouldn't have lost 6 wickets but with the pitch showing some variable bounce, swing on offer with the new ball, and the standard of batting this series, we're surely ahead at 6/311.

Probably have it 65/35 you’d want 400 at a minimum

Not sure he is going to build a career as a test opener with the approach he took.
Well done, but Lady Luck was with him today. Just imagine the blowback if he had tickled one of those first ramp attempts through.
Rooster to feather duster can happen pretty quick on test cricket.
He’ll be fine, he has a decent ‘natural’ game, I’ve seen it.

Also, don’t underestimate how comfortable these guys are playing the ramps. They’ve been brought up differently.

Given Kohli's current form, we wouldn't want him missing the last Test anyway.

Should be able to nominate a player to be suspended haha

Agree. ‘Swinging from the arse’ is not good batting, and good Test bowlers aren’t troubled by that. He has come a long way in a short time, and if he works on his technique may well have a future.

Slater was attacking but was very correct.

That was unconventional but wasn't swinging from the arse. To play shots like that you need an eye like a dead fish & very quick reflexes. I'm sure he can play conventional too, but I bet you most players that play conventional can't do that. Nice to have a few bows to your arrow. Sure he rode his luck, but Travis head does that too, as did Gilly & Warner. The point is when it comes off, you put your team in a very strong position which we are now. Give me that innings today rather than a cautious 60 ball 15 run innings.

The few times I have seen him in shield he has not batted like that .

So I would say it was a calculated plan . I hated seeing it early , but it paid off and you need to give him credit for trying something against Bumrah .
The kid has talent.

He does have technique flaws and today India were rattled and captained poorly by Sharma . They now have had a look and will go to work on him .

When he goes forward if not caught on the crease his front foot 9/10 always points to cover.......I think he will get a lot of straight/inswing/cut full bowling at him now . Boland in the shield game did exactly that and rolled him .

I didn't think he was ready but on today he might just have the temperament for it .

I don't think the pitch is that easy. I reckon 350 is a good score. Anything above is a bonus. I feel that India were too short, not enough balls were hitting the stumps & Konstas put them off their game early. Doubt Cummins & Boland in particular will give that luxury.

My goodness.

How does Mitchell actually play any tests at all with that FC average?

saved Australia's ass at Headingly.

you'd think those credits are due to be up soon.

About right, you don't really want to be suspending players for one off things. Everyone loses then.

But if you repeat it then that's a different story.

Maybe a few penalty runs wouldn't go astray either. That would sort them out.
It has to be the sort of runs that could shift a result though to be any real discouragement and that then raises questions about the integrity of the game.

Worst number 6 in our history

Green back can’t be soon enough

don't get me wrong, I'd take green over marsh, but greens very ordinary with the willow also.

You'd think Cam Green takes the all rounder spot now when he comes back.
Very likely, but that won't be for Sydney or Sri Lanka.
Webster seems the obvious choice for Sydney if the selectors insist on an all-rounder. For Sri Lanka, more likely a spin all-rounder if anyone can name one that has actually played FC cricket in recent years.

Am I the only one who thinks the media are going over the top on Sam Konstas on what he has done today? Yes it was a solid knock, there was some good shots, but also there was some lucky shots as well. It was good, but not as good as the Media are talking about
I would not regard it as a "solid" knock. A handy score, and certainly put India on the back foot once he started getting a few away. A definite change in mindset and momentum (the two are often the same thing in cricket).
But I do wonder how consistent he can be if he insists on that style. And consistency is more important for openers, particularly with a fragile top and middle order.

Was just starting to come into his own with the bat, and a significantly better bowler, not to mention his fielding
