Pitty the umpires are hopeless. This was called a free kick against him...when it should have been high and he would have had a shot at goal. Instead it went straight down the other end for a Kangeroos goal.

Tsatas raised his arm to raise tackle above shoulder so no free kick there

3 things

1) i see a lot of Martin in him, except his kicking.....ewww
2) the knock that he doesn't tackle - i see why but don't think it's too big an issue. rather than get sucked in, he's just outside the contest and gets nice hands in. applies perceived pressure that he tries to take advantage of.....could be interesting...
3) those hands are clean off the deck, but more to the point, he weights his handballs to perfection. nothing to the feet, behind his teammate, halting momentum.

He keeps playing for high contact like that, and the umps will soon ban him from free kicks.

Can we call it now?
doesn't lift the arm or anything. just bends under opponents, or gets his head over the ball to pick it up.
Seems to drop as part of his sprint action to build momentum.

gonna make him hard to tackle properly.

He doesn't mind a duck but doesn't lift the arm like Ginnivan, rare to see someone in black and red play for the high free that often tbh
Shuey is very lucky he plays for West Coast because a young guy like Ginnivan who learnt those techniques of him is getting all the flack.

Hobbs and Tippa tend to do it a little bit. aswell

It is not really ducking to draw contact. It is more to go under tackles and lift out the other side. Not like he is also throwing the head back. He is just trying to plow though. People always complained about Sellwood but even with him it was not about drawing a free kick as the first thought. It was a method used to break tackles. I got taught the same thing playing junior RL. You try and lift the arm to force the tackle high and over. In AFL you get the added bonus that you will get free kicks from high contact at times. It is not about directly winning free kicks

I remember it being spoken about re: Selwood. It's not the sort of thing that should draw a free kick (although Selwood usually did), but if it helps you break the tackle and get away then you should do it unless people are getting injured.

Selwood didn't generally go to ground unlike a Shuey. In Selwood's case if he didn't get the free and did break the tackle the play continues, in Shuey (or Ginnivan, or Weightman) you have players who if they don't get a free end up flopped on the ground useless.
