Isaac Heeney

Isaac Heeney is a crowd favourite and one of the best young players in the competition. The QBE Sydney Swans Academy graduate won the 2018 AFL Mark of the Year award, was selected in the AFL Players’ Association’s 22Under22 team in two of his eligible four years and played his 100th senior game in 2019. Heeney can be used in the midfield, forward line – where he booted four goals in star teammate Lance Franklin’s absence in Round 20 last year – or as a loose man in defence.

Heeney is going great, no doubt about it. But shouldn't we, as supporters of the club, be downplaying him until after the next draft? Praising him like we are at this delicate time only works against us. We have the F/S review in progress and other clubs are currently assessing Mills.

I'm not saying that recruiters read our threads and take notice of what we say, but supporters of other clubs and some people in the media do and they can influence the other clubs.

A lot can change in a year. Mills and Dunkley might have stinkers, some other top 10s might hit some serious grooves and the other recruiters might not see these guys as fitting in game plan and style. I wouldn't worry

Bit hard to downplay the live on national TV free to air and pay stuff video evidence :p

Can't keep a lid on this one unfortunately.

We should be pushing Brandon Jack as the other side of the story more - not in a bad way just to show how hard it is even with talent to make the grade.

yeah I agree, lets maturely and professionally lay out the full story of how much work we put into the academy, and that prospects can still be hit or miss. I'm sure critics won't be hyperbolic or hysterical.

LAWLS

It's as if we just cherry picked all the good ones and didn't put 100's of kids through at once from the ages of around 10-12 of which a very, very small portion make the cut.
