A-League Ins and Outs

I thought Melbourne were very close to getting the third striker. I swear I read a quote somewhere that Merrick said he was very happy with the player Cole was able to secure.

Yeah it is a Brazillian who will be named in the next few days, it is very hush hush.

I hope it is Claudinho (joking)

Already mentioned Criag Moore to QLD to be unveiled today

Good to see some quality defenders here.

Moore seems to be who everyone thinks it is, and it very well could be. I hope so as we need some decent defenders. I also know Roar were in discussions with a European player about being their marquee signing, so there is the possibility Moore isn't who we'll be signing. Should be interesting.

If we do sign Moore it gives us as good a central defence as any side, and with Tiatto, McKay and Marcinho we'll have a good midfield as well. It'll just be up to the strikers to improve their output to give us a chance.

We'll still need to sign a left back and right midfielder if we want to challenge for the title though.

Confirmation of Victory's new signing

http://www.theworldgame.com.au/home/index.php?pid=st&cid=92331

A-League Champions Melbourne Victory have completed the signing of promising Brazilian youngster Leandro Love on a one-year loan deal from Japanese J-League side Vissel Kobe.

Leandro, 21, has most recently been playing for Brazilian side Rio Branco in the Paulista State Championship.

Victory coach Ernie Merrick insists Leandro will lend valuable support to Danny Allsopp and Archie Thompson in attack.

"Leandro really fits the profile of the type of player we try to attract to Melbourne. He's young and quick and technically very sound. He also likes to take defender on and that's what we like in our strikers," he said.

"It's important to realise that he's been signed as a back-up to the league's two top goal scorers, and he'll need to understand that."

Leandro is expected to travel to Melbourne within the next two weeks, meaning he will be unavailable for the club's Pre-Season Cup clash with Perth Glory this weekend in Darwin.

Also Moore to Roar

Queensland Roar has signed Socceroos defender Craig Moore on a two-year deal.

Moore, 31, has signed as the club's marquee player and joins Queensland after spending the last two seasons in the English Premier League with Newcastle United.

"For me it's the right time to come back and play in the Hyundai A-League and I'm delighted to have signed for the club," Moore said.

"I'm young enough to give good service to Queensland Roar and hopefully I can make a good contribution to the league. Football is growing in Australia and I'm very happy to be part of it again. I always wanted to give something back to the game here and hopefully I'll be able to do that in the coming seasons."

Moore has spent the last 14 seasons playing overseas, starting out in Scotland with his time at Rangers punctuated only by a short stint with Crystal Palace. He then joined German outfit Borussia Monchengladbach from Rangers, before being snapped up by Newcastle.

"Craig has played at every level of competition, including the English Premiership, Scottish Premiership, the European Champions' League and of course the World Cup Finals," Roar coach Frank Farina said.

"He is a player of the highest quality and a real leader both on and off the field. His experience will be vital to helping us achieve our aim and I couldn't be happier that he has joined us."

"Craig Moore is a winner; it's as simple as that. He's had a very successful career and at only 31-years-old he still has many good years in front of him."

"When you bring in players like Craig Moore and Danny Tiatto you know what you're getting; experience, drive and leadership. Both have 'been there and done it' and they will give our squad such a good balance. What they can teach our younger players will be invaluable."

^^^ Good to see the A-League defences getting some big names

Popovic, Moore, Milicevic, Foxe. The league is really coming along! It will just create further interest in what is already a well supported league, will help if Aloisi signs for Sydney.

The Victory are set now, because as 1 famous quartet once said.... "All You Need Is Love"

There's nothing you can do that can't be done.
Nothing you can sing that can't be sung.
Nothing you can say but you can learn how to play the game.
It's easy.

Nothing you can make that can't be made.
No one you can save that can't be saved.
Nothing you can do but you can learn how to be you in time.
It's easy.

All you need is love.
All you need is love.
All you need is love, love.
Love is all you need.

:D

Edit: Plus there's....

Love comes to town I'm gonna jump on that train
When love comes to town I'm gonna catch that flame
Maybe I was wrong to ever let you down
But I did what I did before love came to town

And...

And can you feel the love tonight
It is where we are
It's enough for this wide-eyed wanderer
That we got this far
And can you feel the love tonight
How it's laid to rest
It's enough to make kings and vagabonds
Believe the very best

It's only on Tribal Football, so it 99% not likely to happen, but they've said former Boro player Juninho is possibly going to be Sydney's marquee signing. If it happens I'll seriously have to consider following Sydney while he plays for them :D Hope he comes, he'd be sensational in the A League.

Sydney FC end marquee mess with Juninho swoop

Michael Cockerill
August 1, 2007

SYDNEY FC's prolonged search for a new marquee player is over, with former Brazilian international Juninho Paulista agreeing to join the club for this season.

Juninho, 34, is believed to have agreed terms last week and is expected to be unveiled by the club on Friday. The former Middlesbrough playmaker is set to make his first public appearance in Saturday night's pre-season match against Newcastle Jets.

Juninho has not played regularly since being released by his Brazilian club, Flamengo, two months ago, and had hoped to return to England. But a failed move to newly promoted Premiership side Derby County has convinced Juninho to join the Brazilian exodus to the A-League, where he becomes Sydney FC's first signing from South America.

While Sydney FC coach Branko Culina had shifted his sights to signing a striker following a failed attempt to recruit Dutch veteran Phillip Cocu, the recent collapse of negotiations with former England forward Robbie Fowler moved Juninho back to the top of the list of targets. It is believed Culina intends to use Juninho in an advanced midfield role, where his record suggests he can contribute a steady stream of goals.

Juninho will be the only foreign marquee player in the competition this season and is the highest-profile player to join the A-League since Sydney's previous marquee signing, Dwight Yorke. The signing is a timely boost for the club following the recent dramas surrounding Socceroos pair David Carney and Mark Milligan, who have made no secret of their desire to move abroad on the eve of the new season. Sheffield United, relegated from the Premiership last season, are believed to have made a formal offer for Carney late yesterday.

Two years ago there were only two Brazilians in the A-League, but this season there will be 11.
