Bluffing about pick 2 isn't the issue for me, most clubs would have done that, I don't see it being the crucial negotiating point. Had we not, the outcome would still be the same and we'd be unhappy with it anyway.
We were never offering Brad the 5 year deal Brad was after and Saint Kilda really had no reason to trade, I guess we tried to get them to take the triggers out of the deal to make it easier for them.
Match and if the Saints really did present Brad with the best offer and maybe Adelaide was still Brad's second choice, there is no trade option if the Saints say no thanks, the idea we could just bring in another club was never happening.
The reason we actually should be angry is the behind the scenes stuff of actually getting pick 2 from the AFL (I bet that would have been easier had it been pick 14 or something - so I do think that was possible, think covid discount or something) or working with Saint Kilda to make it happen.

A unproven head coach who set a record for losses, a ex captain, a senior coach who has avoided successful periods at Eagles, Collingwood and Hawthorn and Rahilly.

Judging by the records of said new appointments it's not too early at all.
In isolation I don't mind not giving Brad a 5 year deal either, but even I'd have matched. But the calls of "he's a fraud" and "he'll never recover" are equally as poor.

Just really badly played by the AFC, and the crows fans have every right to demand answers.
I can spin it to be bad as well. I dont don't mind the coaching panel and its an improvement on our previous league worst setup but it is far from proven.
Kelly has undone anything suposed improvements he has made in the blink of an eye he has been with us.

I rather loose Brad for pick 23 then offer a player who averages 11 games a season a 5 year deal
AFL need to pull back on these long terms deals to players who are not in the top 5% players in the comp

For years we've wanted the Clarkson influence at the club, we've now got it. This coaching panel is very good and has depth.
But I will concede this isn't a good look.

I don't think it's fair, but if we did try and shop him around a bit for 3 days, big it I know, it doesn't sound like anyone would've given us much more.

To be honest, that's fair enough but that isn't what is being argued here. It is our Footy manager and list manager coming out all full of piss and vinegar claiming we would match if we don't get pick 2and then stringing it out because we didn't have the balls to match the offer. We were outplayed by the Saints who knew we didn't want to give Brad 4 years let alone 5, so they gave him five knowing we wouldn't match.
It would have been far easier if they'd have come out Monday morning and said the compo is shit but it is better than being stuck with Brad for 5 years. As it is now, we have shown a complete lack of spine in front of the AFL community
