kelly is responsible for creating the expectation in some ways but he’s not responsible for the outcome as much as other people at the club and Brad himself

I agree .....so don't say anything .....often silence is your best tool in a negotiation .....silence has your opponent guessing & jumping at shadows

Talking normally just tell your opponent what you're thinking .....or whether your bluffing

But in the AFL World, where the practice is to try and get along with clubs for the benefit of the "next" deal .....the trade off is you reveal yourself about how you go about things ....how you approach trades

We needed to find a way to get the Saints to pay him more to make sure we got pick 2. We didnt execute correctly. But in true AFC fashion, we unnecessarily make ourselves look stupid in the media and then show no accountability when its over.

To be honest, that's fair enough but that isn't what is being argued here. It is our Footy manager and list manager coming out all full of piss and vinegar claiming we would match if we don't get pick 2and then stringing it out because we didn't have the balls to match the offer. We were outplayed by the Saints who knew we didn't want to give Brad 4 years let alone 5, so they gave him five knowing we wouldn't match.

It would have been far easier if they'd have come out Monday morning and said the compo is sh*t but it is better than being stuck with Brad for 5 years. As it is now, we have shown a complete lack of spine in front of the AFL community

Imagine if we were Collingwood trying to get rid of a bloke on 800k a season for the next 5 years because you have no cap space? These mistakes do happen, but this needs to be slightly lessened by some creative draft swaps to try secure another pick inside 15. I have hope this may happen with Binuk’s history here.

Might need some media lessons, but the club would also be controlling what he says as well. I just feel like the club has put him out as the fall guy, Reid should’ve fronted last week and today, he’s an absolutely piss weak disgrace. Kelly was involved in some very good assistant coach hires, so he must be good at some aspects of the job.

I've done more than my share of defending the club over time but this has been a shitshow from start to finish by the club Admin, there is no reasonable defence for their actions on this whole sad, sorry balls up.

Oh I agree, just an example that better clubs than ours make poor list management calls as well.
