Analysis Adam Kelly is a fraud

Judging by the records of said new appointments it's not too early at all.

In isolation I don't mind not giving Brad a 5 year deal either, but even I'd have matched. But the calls of "he's a fraud" and "he'll never recover" are equally as poor.
We finished bottom so the new group probably can't make us any worse. That being said, I'm not ready to lavish praise on Kelly when I haven't seen what they can do.

Right now other club's would be looking at Kelly's performance and thinking Adelaide are fair game. You can't just look at this decision in isolation. It will impact other deals further down the line. Now that club's know Kelly is weak, watch it become a feeding frenzy.

I rather loose Brad for pick 23 then offer a player who averages 11 games a season a 5 year deal

AFL need to pull back on these long terms deals to players who are not in the top 5% players in the comp

He missed an entire season due to Burton/AFC mismanagement - can hardly blame him for that.

I have my doubts on that last part.

I mean if he doesn't learn from it then sure, but you'd hope he would.

And I thought he was a good hire

That will teach me to NEVER trust our decision making again
He is a good hire, you're just being somewhat understandably petulant

What about them? It’s disingenuous to present that statistic without elaborating on one of the major factors behind it.

How many were body issues, vs football injuries?
Most were soft tissue or stress related, with a leg fracture in for good measure.

He's not durable, we've seen that for 8 years.

Mistake yes, catastrophic when no one else wanted him ?? No.

Is that you Mark Bickley?

Is that you Mark Bickley?
No, I'd love to have been a 2 time premiership captain but alas injury curtailed my career.

It's a mistake, a big one even, but I'm not righting him off.

I disagree. Adam Kelly is not some teenager working at HJ's forgetting to put pickles on my burger. He has a senior role at a professional sports team. Mistakes are not acceptable.
They aren't acceptable but they happen. You couldn't name a club who hasn't made them

Has looked green for most of the year not just this , I copped it for saying that earlier
If only Balme had agreed to join us ......i'm sure this whole episode would have been played differently

Kelly has not shown an ability to impose his will on the club ......inexperience or out of his depth

Currently he appears to be the media mouthpiece for club decision makers .....rather than being a force in the decision making process

I was going to mention last week, Kelly was far more confident in his tone when appointed .....since then his voice has changed with a hint of nervousness when he speaks, subdued, quiet, almost apologetic ......certainly not the confident speaker that he was upon his arrival at the club

Some serious over reactions in here. Deal didn't go as we hoped obviously but it isn't like they're trying to spin it as a win. I've found Kelly's honesty refreshing. He was open in that we wanted pick 2 and open in that we didn't have much bargaining power afterwards because we weren't prepared to keep him for 5 years.

Reckon we'll look back on this in a few years as a non-event.

The only way it becomes a non-event is if he doesn't make another mistake like it.

Next time we have a FA who people are coming for, probably his brother, we have to actually act like we want him rather than the "under no circumstances are we giving you 5 years" which leaves you a bit vulnerable.

What honesty? he said we will match if we didn't get pick 2.

We didn't get pick 2...and we didn't match

So why did we wait until dead on 5pm on the last day.

We were left holding dick in hand that some magic club would ring us with 10mins to go offering us a better deal, after we shot our mouths off saying compo pick wasn't acceptable, and that (and I quote)

“We certainly are [prepared to match], we are obviously hopeful that the compensation would result in pick two and its only under those circumstances that we won’t consider matching,” Kelly said.

“Brad has been fairly open about his love of Adelaide and of the footy club, we don’t think there would be a scenario where he would not be wanting to come back to the Club.

If we never planned on matching the length of deal, should've come straight out on Monday morning and said it.

Having said what I said Re kelly I still don’t think the result would really be different but the expectation of the fans would have been

kelly is responsible for creating the expectation in some ways but he’s not responsible for the outcome as much as other people at the club and Brad himself

Reckon we would have matched if we knew saints would have traded for him. Once treloar was put on the market we were shit scared of matching and them walking away. I agree it's not a great result but still better than getting stuck with brad on a 5 year deal. I'd hoped that we'd match and get something more but can see why they didn't. I'm definitely not pumped with the outcome but realistically, we were stitched up when we didnt get band 1.
