He wants to play for Carlton (if he can’t get his terms at Essendon).

Adam Saad (Essendon)

"Every chance to leave Essendon with rivals including Melbourne reported as suitors. Could potentially get five seasons at the Dons but his uncertainty about his role and Essendon’s future has to be a reflection on the club."

I would've thought Carlton are pretty well stocked for half back flankers with Docherty, SPP, Newman, and now sounds like your in the prime position to get Williams even though it sounds like you plan to play him in the midfield. Do the blues also have the cash to afford both Williams and Saad?

Carlton has the most free cap space in the league and rightly should be using this to their advantage ahead of the list cuts that all teams will need to make.

I think they could easily accommodate Saad and Williams.

According to the media; it seems the intention is to play Williams as a midfielder, however our HBF line isn’t as deep as we’d like; Docherty, Newman, Williamson and SPS (who should be aiming to play as a midfielder) and needs much more ‘dynamic’ run and carry and line breaking pace to get the ball in quickly to our mobile talls.

He wants to play at Carlton due to:

1. Contract on offer
2. Close proximity to his home/family
3. He was close to joining when he originally left GC, but we couldn’t get close to what was on offer from Essendon.

Saad has first round value??? :O

Last year trades involving a first round pick were:
- Brad Hill and a future third for Acres and 10
- Tim Kelly and fluff for 14 and 24 fluff
- GWS got pick 6 for picks 12 and 18
- Melb and North swapped 2019 and 2020 firsts
- Ryder, Howard and 10 for 12 and 18

If Saad is more valuable than any of those trades, Essendon should take whatever first round pick is on the table and run for the hills. Saad is a dime a dozen half back.
Was the Eagles 2020 1st rounder "fluff"? The Kelly trade was:

Kelly + Pick 57 + 2020 3rd <> Pick 14 + Pick 24 + Pick 37 + 2020 1st

I would say Saad is worth easily more than Howard was. Ryder was steak knives in that trade.

I think you proved my point with Kelly, two he was worth two first rounders - my apologies.

What has Saad done to command a first round pick? Hes 27 next year and is only really outstanding at rebound 50s.

You should be able to get a lot more out of a first round pick, especially if its a top 10 (Carlton, Melbourne, North)

Proved your point how? Kelly was worth 2 first rounders and 2 second rounders. Makes a single 1st rounder for Saad a very reasonable price, wouldn't you think? Think this one through

Saad is pretty close to the best small defender in the comp and a high level rebounder to boot. Think he’s being significantly underrated in here.

Absolutely not, one is a reigning all Australian mid fielder who finished top 5 in a Brownlow medal race, the other is a dime a dozen half back who hasn't played a part in a meaningful team through his entire career.

Mate give up, you've embarrassed yourself here. "Proved your point" :tearsofjoy:

Is it really that hard to drive to Tullamarine compared to Princes Park? I don't buy it. Reason 1 sounds much more influential. If Saad chose the highest bidder last time and is doing so again this time, he sounds pretty money-hungry. I doubt it's for the prospect of winning a premiership in the next few years, I have the Bulldogs and St Kilda well ahead on that criterion.

Carlton apparently “leading the chase” for Williams, though Carlton could just be that club that is linked to everybody this year.

Would they chase both Williams and Saad, or is that too much to spend on defenders in one hit?
williams to spend majority of the time in the midfield and saad off HB i reckon.

Seems I've offended a lot of Essendon supporters here by saying you'll be getting better value out of a first round pick than that of keeping the average at best Saad.

Can't win with you lot.

He was actually playing better when he was with the Suns than he has with the Bombers, just that he was off broadway.

They got him for a 2nd rounder when he was in contract, is 3 years older, with only 3 more prime years remaining as a back pocket/flanker and is now worth more as a 1st rd pick.

That's Essendon at the trade negotiation table for you.

Like winning trades more than games.

Real Internet forum 101 here

Derp: [says something blatantly wrong]

Internet: You’re wrong

Deep: OMGz you lot are offended

Genuinely good player. OOC, if he nominates a club I'd imagine a pick late in the teens/early 20s would be the price after some posturing from both parties.
Also depends on what the bombers want to do, hit the draft/ go again with most of the list they have.
They can't trade a first rounder unless one comes in. So, depending what happens with Daniher, I can see a scenario where the Bombers take Saad and a third for a first.
