Oppo Camp Adam Treloar (Traded to Bulldogs 2020)

Hanging on to loyal 'servants of the club' isnt enough, and it hasn't brought us flags. Will ridding ourselves of Treloar send the wrong message to the other players? Maybe. But maybe not. It might also signal that we intend to be more ruthless in our pursuit of a flag, and that no-one at the club - staff, coaches, players, board members, president - should feel relaxed in their position. I'm sick of treading water. Giving out hugs and being nice to everyone hasn't worked. I'd prefer to see a message that says nothing is gonna stand in our way. We've just lost 10 years, and we may lose another, but who knows?
Its worked for Richmond, 3 Times.. It's not the 80's where you could berate players to get a spark or be ruthless when a player has a 5 year contract. Now they need to nurture and put their arms around players, assuring them they are a team member.
This has nothing to do with the club wanting to Trade Treloar, its the way the club has handled it. 100% there will be ramifications inside the playing group and having the ability to recruit player.

Have you been eating some of Lamumba's mushrooms? Players have always been nurtured by clubs. Players today need to earn respect from their team mates, unless they are busting a gut at training and doing all the right things then no one is going to stroke their heads and make them feel loved. Treloar is the obvious choice to salary dump because he is no where near the player he was before 2018.

I’m still holding out hope that common sense will prevail and that the Suns will come late with pick 5 and pick up most of his salary.

They have as much chance of finals as Hawks in the next 2 years and at least he’d be in Qld with his partner and child.

Why because of the narrative and doomsday scenario the media is rattling every day?
Do you believe everything you read in the paper?
Please tell us the truth.

The club is always bigger than any individual.
Collingwood existed before Adam Treloar
It will exist long after him.
Still need to treat players with respect. Not sure that has happened in this case.

Except for El Presidente

My biggest gripe isn't the club wanting to trade Ads, its how the club has gone about it.
If the club was really interested in his mental state with his family living in qld then surely the club doesn't entertain the idea of trading him to a Melbourne club. Imo Kim choosing to play netball in qld really gave the pies the excuse they needed to shift him out the door.
What part of he's adamant not to move to Gold coast slipped past you??
If he's determined to send himself off the rails anyway and we can get a good trade/draft result then that would be good management.
You can only hold a players hand so far and if common sense is ignored then you have to let them go down that track.
I rate Ads as a player and person but this separation can have only one result.

This is a sh.t show and I feel sorry for AT. All the drama and rumours are ringing alarm bells at other clubs, they won’t want to pay anywhere near what Collingwood hopes. I predict Collingwood will be paying 50% of his salary. Every day that passes he becomes less and less attractive. Like a fish rotting on a pier.

Why would he want to stay for?

Not much “love and care” being shown for AT now. I don’t think I’ve ever been angrier at the club as I am now. Disgraceful and embarrassing behaviour

I see the (very unfortunate) Treloar situation as symptomatic of a club that is not well managed, lacks strategic direction, makes decisions on impulse, left hand doesn't know there is a right hand - let alone what it is doing!

Lumumba can keep eating his mushrooms. Im not saying I agree with this new philosophy, but the truth is, the players are too sensitive these days. A different approach is taken nowdays. Clubs belive if a player is in a good head space, they get the best out of the player. And Richmond is a great example. Look at us this year, our player's heads were all but on the footy field at times this year.

The club is always bigger than any individual.
Collingwood existed before Adam Treloar
It will exist long after him.
If only that were true about the muppets in charge!

Club is making some very tough decisions, brutal.

Adam is a much loved player and from all observations appears to love the club.

However, we punted on him, gave him a long, large, back-ended contract and expected him and our core of elites to take us to a flag.
That's now not going to happen and we are looking at where we have to cut players, where we need to free up cap space and go back in to the draft and the trade periods ahead and reshape our side.

Adam is elite in many areas but, the fact is we are not an elite team at center clearances and stoppages, it can also be argued that a high percentage of his disposals do not do enough damage to the opposition, or enable us to apply scoreboard pressure. Despite making the eight we got smashed again at center clearances/stoppages and our inability to effectively enter our forward fifty was there for all to see. Adam is getting on in age and has had some very serious hamstring issues in recent season, where his pace has always been his biggest asset. It is common knowledge that we are in deep peril with our salary cap.

The system and rules pertaining to contracts, caps, drafts and trades et al help create these very situations and to stay at the top, without having to cyclically go up and then back down before you can go up again, requires horrible, brutal, critical decision like this ones being made right now. I love Treloar the Collingwood man, I hate the way we appear to be treating him, but I kind of understand it as well and if this is what it takes to get results, to win flags, then I will wish him well at his next club and live with it.

I would be prepared to trade all of Cox, Ads, Phillips and Stevo if the right deals could be made.

As ashamed as I am for the way CFC has treated one of its own, I see little difference here to how we made Bobby Rose have to look elsewhere for the $$ to support his young family OR the situation where Peter Eakins came to the club in the 70's and was paid twice as much as the then CFC Captain (Des Tuddenham). I survived both those situations and I guess after this one I'll survive and look to the future again. It is what it is and AT will be elsewhere in the next week or so. As per usual though the trials and tribulations of CFC has been media fodder for the sharks and the bottom feeders. Get it done and move on Mr Guy.

Stop believing Tommy Morris rumour mill and wait for the next week to unfold.
I really hope you are right mate. I fear you are wrong though and that our club has thrown this boy under the bus.

Brilliant post mate. Only problem is that it’s wrong. Treloar is being traded because we stuffed up our cap.
