Adelaide's decline

- He's Victorian.
- Adelaide and its fans wouldn't want him back after pikering at 2011's end.
He wasn't at Adelaide's B&F in 2011 and was on his way back to Victoria.

They had quite the list of leaving players throughout the years:
-Phil Davis.
-Patrick Dangerfield.
-Kurt Tippet.
-Charlie Cameron.
-Jake Lever.
-Alex Keith.
-Mitch Mcgovern.
Just to name a few.I they have a greater player retention than even Gold Coast or GWS. Makes it seem like a rocky environment. Moreover, in the past few years they've failed to attract any many big players to the club either through a draft or though trade. Port did a good job at the end of 2018 to acquire Scott Lycett and well as Butters, Dursuma and Rozee.

If Brad Crouch gets us band 1 he can go. But if it's band 2, I'd keep him and force Sloane out. Sloane is a role player these days and probably our highest paid. He's also on record saying the camp was the best thing ever while it was destroying the group around him. He's more aligned with admin and therefore a culture problem. Matt Crouch and Kelly should get traded and Tex needs to retire. Otherwise, your list management decisions are spot on.

Walker is contracted next season on big money.
Why would he retire and walk away from the money.
Sloane is contracted for 3 more seasons on probably even bigger money, he is also captain.
How do you propose to “force him out” and why would he walk away from the money.

Have to try. Paying half of Sloane's contract still saves us $400k or so. Plus we might get a reasonable pick if we're picking up a fair bit of his salary. Let's say he's worth $600k, the destination club gets him for $400k with us paying him the same. Surely worth a bit of extra sugar at the trade table. Tex we just pay out in full or reach a settlement. It's a waste of a list spot and worse, we'll continue to play him and deny others regardless of his output.

Edit - worth noting that the post that I responded to included a list of players that we should trade or delist that included many who are contracted beyond this year. Off the top of my head, Lynch, Crouch M, Gibbs and Laird are all contracted. As may be Seedsman and Hartigan. So if they can somehow be moved on, Tex and Sloane can be in the mix as well.

Jenkins at Geelong and Betts at Carlton, both still being payed to play by Adelaide.
Gibbs on big money in the sanfl and appears to have had his papers stamped.
Now Walker to be paid out in full for next season and Sloane to be subsidised at another club to the tune of about 500k a season for 3 more years !!
Young Reid ... what a mess ...

Still cheaper than paying their full wage.

What do Andrew Fagan CEO, Shane Smallacombe CFO, Mark Riccuito, Don Pyke and Brett Burton all have in common?

My eternal gratitude ... 😎

I'll pay that. But those guys all sit on our list management committee that provides the direction for Reid to execute. Changing him changes nothing, our issues remain higher up with that committee and our football strategy committee. Which then adds in Rob Chapman FFS. What the **** does he know about football. Someone that worked with him said he only had the vaguest interest in footy until he joined our board. ****ing laughable if it wasn't so tragic.

Pyke and Burton still sit on list management committee ??
How about Triggy ??
I believe he is back in favour these days ...

Steven Trigg, a former Adelaide Football Club chief executive, has been out of AFL football for two years now. In the past month, the former SANFL footballer has been courted to be Rob Chapman’s successor as Crows chairman from October.

I just can't stop laughing this is too much

If that was actually true the whole board needs to be wiped, thankfully he was smart enough to say no.

Talia
Walker
Laird
Smith
Matt Crouch
Gibbs
Lynch

These guys are probably all in your top 10 salary cap and are all coming out of contract in 2021. The best thing the Crows could probably do is take another year of finishing at the bottom, get 2 years of top draft picks, have a huge war chest when the above listed guys come out of contract and trade in some good players.

Agree. I don't have the data to support it, but i think 2 years in the bottom 3 is better for future on-field success than just a 1 year dip. Shouldn't have any significant impact on off-field success either, once the kids start winning a few years later. The issue is when it stretches to 3+ years as the Dees and Blues have found. Once the rot really sets in, its difficult to remove completely.

Talia and Smith are the only two I would keep, the rest can clear out

Tex will still be good to get teach the younger guys and Sloane is far from

100% correct. Play kids for a few years while cherry pick top end of draft and then hopefully rebound. As a crows fan it's actually an exciting time have never being down the bottom and looking at a full rebuild.... as long as it don't last to long

You couldn’t make it up really, could you.

To me the crows should let both Crouch boys & Laird leave, to me it will be a blessing in disguise. Reality is Crows suck yet they have a lot of players with strong accolades playing. But I watch them play and very few of them actually seem to be good leaders and trying to lead the way for their young players and that is not a good sign.

Sloane is certainly cooked but he seems to lead the young kids very well whichis a good sign for the club, Even more so is Daniel Talia and Brodie Smith who are still playing well but are working hard to not just play there role but help the development of Doedee, McAsey and Hamill, this is very important for the club.

if I were the crows I would get rid of all senior players who are playing for themselves. Some will get you currency some won’t. Tom Lynch, Seedsman, Gibbs, Brad Crouch, Matt Crouch, Mackay, Laird and Hartigan. All should be thanked by the club and moved on.

let Walker, Sloane, Talia, Brodie Smith lead the club forward, work hard on developing McHenry, Hamill, McAsey, Doedee, Frampton, Jones etc and just keep building through the youth along with Kelly, O BRIEN, Stengel, Forgarty etc.

these are all tough calls but ones I think should be made.
Can add Atkins to the list of players that should be let go at years end.

They need to pray someone offers Brad Crouch 750k plus

I can’t see anyone offering that much atm

Nup. They needed to pull the trigger on him last year when he was desperate to go to Gold Coast. The better outcome would have been to keep Greenwood and jettison Couch.
