Adelaide's decline

I couldn't believe it when Roo interviewed Nicks & said "Nicksy you would have been pretty happy with that first half, that was a pretty good effort around the ball" You could see Nicks look at him like 'mate we are playing shit what were you watching'.

As for the game Adelaide probably wouldn't be half as bad as they are if Matt Crouch would either:
A) Run to receive the ball so he would be on his dominant left side or,
B) Actually use his right foot to kick

No you weren't. Saints always had your measure. Most of your goals came from dubious free kicks.

As a neutral who went to the game I tend to agree; the Saints always had the game in control against a lineup possibly worse than Melbourne's during our dark years.

He's right though.

Outside of clearances (which has been an issue of ours for a while now), we had some periods where we dominated forward half territory (especially during the 3rd) and just couldn’t convert set shots. Also won the inside 50 count for the first time this season. Tackled well for once. I’m not saying we were clearly the better side or anything, a 2 goal margin either way would’ve been justifiable. The Saints went well above the AFL average for inside 50 to score conversions and fair play to them for that, they deserved the win based on that alone.

Replacing Matt Crouch with just about anyone else would go a long way to us winning too, we can’t win with him in the side even if we do well in every other aspect of the game.

Beats me why Pyke refused to play Hamill. Kid has all the tools to be a gun and seems ready made at AFL Level.

The Crows kids are actually quite decent/talented, it's just their veterans and middle tier players who are stinking it up (which is why i firmly believe Nicks deserves at least 2 more yeats to turn things around)

Clearly that camp head ******d the club, would be staggered if Chapman, Riccuito etc are still at the club next year

Yeah I thought the spark they had last night was the young players - aside from the brief here have some free goals Tex bit - but concerning so many experienced AFL players who have been in contention can drop their heads so much.

Not trying to be a smart arse as I want to aside ask a serious question.

Doedee, Jones and Milera and potentially Hamill and McAsey would all get 10-20 games a season at most clubs. What other young players on that list would get anywhere near an AFL team's rookie list let alone their starting 22?

That list makes Fitzroy's 96 side look good in comparison and they're going to take a number of years trying to rebuild. Top it off with culture issues that make them lose most good players who walk through the door and how can they hope to rebuild in the near future?

I'd probably add Murphy & Fogarty to that list. If we are talking young talent to be developed on a list then I'd add Worrell as well. Outside of that though not too sure, but there are plenty of kids who could develop a lot with more game time.

Murphy? I had to go and check the list to see if we had a Murphy I didn't know about. We don't, that Murphy you mention is a spud - want him?

Not that wrapped in too many of our kids, certainly don't have enough to replace all the mid to senior players who are past it or spudding it up.

Yeah I'd take him, don't think he's as bad as you're making out. I think he's someone that would thrive in a top team by doing the forward defensive work that would free up the goal kicking forwards.

A lot of your kids haven't had huge exposure & this year are under more pressure because of how poorly the senior players are playing, so they've had to carry a lot more load than they should have.

Was a pretty reasonable contract. Did the Crows re-negotiate?

You can throw in McGovern on that list given both second rounders Carlton traded came from the Gibbs trade. Put in McAdam for the Crows too.
Think front-ended. Jon Ralph said yesterday isnt on much for next year.
Just one of the second rounders from Gibbs wasnt it, but Crows 3rd from that trade went to Carlton in gov trade too. Fair to say need to see some improvement from McHenry to get value from that 16.

Getting beat by 100 less than you were tbf. Who did you have at full back then? Frawley? Do wonder how much our scores saved by having Talia organising down there.

Don't quite equate these two statements.

Do you reckon there's any chance he's not extracting as much as he can. He'd be doing us no favours, would be $600k minimum.

Gibbs not on big money.

Don't sleep on Hamill and Worrell potentially being better than Kennedy, De Konig, O'Brien in the Gibbs trade either.
I like hamil looks the goods. Don’t know much about worrell. De koning looking the goods. O brien has been underwhelming. Kennedy is fringe 22 we wait and see. Not the worst deal for Adelaide if both worell and hamil make it or carlton. It will be a few years before finals for Adelaide.

Give his manager a raise. He pulled that same crap at Carlton then requested a trade after the primo years were done.

Nope. Both the second rounders given for McGovern were remnants from the Gibbs trade. Carlton split up the Crows pick 16 for one of them, the other came from the Crows themselves. Probably could've got Gibbs for McGovern alone 12 months earlier.
