Adelaide's decline

Remove this Banner Ad

The AFL club called “Port Adelaide“ is an insult to the SANFL club that still exists, and the expansion into the AFL has resulted in a two decade long premiership draught that is one of the worst in PA (SANFL) history.

I regret to inform you that the Port Adelaide Football Club, its members and supporters, are the custodians of its history. Random mouthbreathers on Bigfooty are not.

I am happy to take questions.

Nothing quite like being preached to by some uneducated fan of a plastic club about exactly who your club is. Gtfo

Some notable players who played in some of those flags in 88-96 or got drafted soon after: Gavin Wanganeen, Nathan Buckley, Andrew Mcleod, Darryl and Shane Wakelin, Michael Wilson, Byron Pickett, Peter and Shaun Burgoyne, Warren Tredrea, and Corey Enright. So no biggy. Only a couple of Brownlow Medalists, a couple of NAB Rising Stars, Norm smith medalists, 2 out of the top 10 highest capped VFL/AFL players of all time. We have had draftees play in the 1987, 1993, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015 AFL premiership side. These aren't even our best players. Tim Evans averaged 4.1 goals a game in State of Origin (seeing as though you don't rate the SANFL). I can't find anyone even Lockett, Dunstall, or Lloyd averaging better. Russell Ebert took the piss in the VFL as a FIFO player for a season as a 29 year old and still finished as the highest disposal getter in the 2nd best team in the comp. Mark Williams captained and won 2 B&fS at Collingwood. But yeah, Port adelaide. Done nothing.

But how many of those achievements (yes other than those precious SANFL flags) actually happened at Port Adelaide? I don't hear West Coast boasting about Chris Judd's 2010 Brownlow.

Imagine if I started boasting about Geelong's achievements because one of our 2009 draftees became a premiership player? And then it turns out to be Nathan Vardy in 2018. Or if Adelaide to spruik because one of their former players won a Brownlow at Geelong? You're even spruiking about a player winning B&Fs at Collingwood for God's sake. Give me achievements of Port Adelaide players actually AT Port Adelaide.
What a laughable post.

No other club in history has destroyed themselves purely on the basis of a single game, had to go through a five year rebuild with the worst team it has ever seen
Carlton vs Gold Coast 2012 comes to mind...Ratten's sacking and Malty's installation.

You know what is laughable. Dumbarses who demonstrate absolutely no critical thinking whatsoever and throw up examples that have nothing to do with the comment it was responding to. People are trying to pot Port and saying their heritage doesn't matter because the SANFL is an inferior league. Well gee it's almost like naming a bunch of absolute stars of the 'best' league who came from our premiership sides in the supposedly 'inferior' league refutes that. West Coast didn't develop Chris Judd from a kid. Look at how many studs we produced who played in our supposedly irrelevant league. By your logic very few players played for both the Geelong Falcons and the cats. I count 4. Geez Geelong must be a shit parasite club. Well lets have a look at our 2004 AFL side. Port Magpie recruit Warren Tredrea comes third in the Coleman. We beat arguably the greatest AFL side of all time to clinch a flag. Warren Tredrea captain's our side. Mark Williams Coaches us. Byron Picket Wins a Norm Smith. Michael Wilson, Tredrea, Burgoyne x 2, Wakelin, Pickett, Wanganeen all played. So the captain, coach, and 7 out of 22 players were originally from the greatest and most successful football club in Australia. Who was your captain in your first two flags, wasn't he that guy who couldn't get a game for us because another Port Adelaide warrior in Darren Mead was too good to give his spot up. So basically we had 7 players to your 4 + a coach, plus you needed one of our AFL team's cast offs to lead you to glory. I like how you name Nathan Vardy as the biggest spud to play in a flag. You know who else played in that flag? Scott Lycett, another Port Magpie who now plays for our AFL side. There are so many studs that we have produced, I evidently forgot to add in 2018 (Lycett) and 2010 (Didak) to the list of our players who have played in flags.

In summation, we're awesome and you're dumb. I could have put something wittier in, but I couldn't be ****ed.

Brilliant, but let’s not act as though your club is anything close to enviable.

Your club acts as though it has pretensions to greatness, despite the fact your highest achievement is a single premiership among years and years of choking and some of the most inconsistent football of all time. All your supporters act as though ”Port Adelaide” is synonymous with premierships, but the gap between the SANFL club and the AFL team is so wide, that to associate the two is bordering on being a pure joke. You act as though you have history, and yet these past 23 years have one highlight among two decades of failure and hilarity that no other team in the league matches.

No other B22 in league history has lost to a team after the siren, twice, consecutively, on the same ground. No other club in history has destroyed themselves purely on the basis of a single game, had to go through a five year rebuild with the worst team it has ever seen, in either the state league it comes from or the elite one it finds itself in now, and come out the other side with nothing to show for it. You may be on top of the ladder now, but as history shows, and the coach you should’ve sacked two years ago will prove again, this is a false dawn with nothing at the end of it.

The AFL club called “Port Adelaide“ is an insult to the SANFL club that still exists, and the expansion into the AFL has resulted in a two decade long premiership draught that is one of the worst in PA (SANFL) history.

I prefer Fremantle to you, hell, I prefer Richmond to you, and I hate them more than anything else in this godforsaken league.

So when you go hanging sh*t on a club that finds itself in the same situation you were in 8 years ago, let’s not forget the embarrassment your club has been to both the 150 year old SANFL powerhouse that you share your name with, and to South Australian football as a whole.

Interesting that your account is from the same year Richmond stopped being a laughing stock. Also interesting that you would call me a kid, when your name and avatar is a character that burps and farts alot and is generally a narcissistic douche.

Yeah sure other "account"

I mean, I am not going to out which one of my accounts got me banned so I can be banned again so dunno, figure it out. Which kind of Richmond supporter are you? The kind that turned up in 2015 which you stopped sucking or the kind that hung around during the bad times so you could spit on your own players?

Please Bender is one of the greatest tv characters, anyway I doubt most kids would even know Futurama these days.

Also talking about laughing stocks exactly what Port Power have been since 2007, by far the most irrelevant club in the league.

Nah, you passed the baton on between the 2014-15 seasons. Remember that game you came to AO chest out in 2014 after perennially finishing 9th? Don't worry, we will be more than happy to pass it back to you soon enough. 2 flags in the AFL era, alongside alot of sucking. Geez you guys are fair weather supporters aren't you.

Has Port Power even won a final since 2014?

We sure take up a lot of your energy for such an irrelevant club. Look I’m gonna keep it real, I’m glad Richmond beat Adelaide in 2017, but had I known how arrogant some Tigers fans would get I’d probably have barracked for the Crows to win it.
Anywho this thread is deviating a lot now so I figure I may as well have gotten this in.

Brett Burton is a textbook narcissist. Failed upwards into the football manager role at the Crows, and was so completely out of his depth in every aspect of it that IMO he is more responsible than any one other individual for the mess that they find themselves in today.

And then he had the audacity to sue the club for 'unfair dismissal'. I'm not sure there's ever been a fairer dismissal in the history of employment.

5 weeks before he was sacked, Robert Chapman was on the radio telling everyone that Burton would so good he should be viewed as 'one of the elite Footy Ops Managers in the League,' - the guy was ****ing hopeless, and never should've been employed; but he 100% had an unfair dismissal case.

Which just highlights how incompetent the AFC Executive/Board are - they should be out on their arses.

What is it with Richmond supporters?
Is it just BF, or are they like this in general?
I didn't see many of them when living in Melbourne because it was a few years ago now and they weren't anywhere to be found back then understandably.

I don’t think you quite understand next season and maybe the one after will likely be worse
Dmac
Sloanne
Ted
Lynch
Gibbs
Smith

all 30 or close to it, in decline and a solid chunk of your best 22

you’ll need to replace the quality of these guys in the draft just to stand still

if you’re including losses of BCrouch into the bargain the free fall isn’t over
A solid chunk of our best 22? Gibbs hasn’t been best 22 since 2018. Mackay hasn’t contributed anything in his whole career that can’t be replaced by the kids coming through, I’m sure we will miss his 15 anonymous disposals greatly!

Anyone writing off Tex and Sloane only need to look at what Dixon and Boak have been able to do after turning 30. I don’t have a crystal ball to say which way it will go, but it’s way too early to completely write them off from being able to contribute in a positive way to a rebuilding team.

Brodie is 28 and is hardly in decline, just not as consistent as he once was.

Lynch is the only one I agree with, but again we are better off without his constant turnovers by foot and getting games into the next gen.

In case you hadn’t noticed, having pick 1 and likely pick 2 from Brad leaving, along with the Giants first pick is a massive draft hand. Add in our academy and F/S picks and we can aggressively turnover the list again this off season.

Any realistic Crows supporters realise this isn’t a one year rebuild and significant improvements are also required in our coaching and fitness departments for us to even begin to see positive progress, regardless of the playing list. I don’t expect us to be genuinely pushing for a finals spot (not contending, just a finals spot) until 2024 at the earliest.

I wouldn't write Sloane off but Tex is totally cooked sure he can take a mark and kick a goal if it falls in his lap but he's just an easy run off for a defender.. if it was 1985 he'd be ok.
