That's old Melbourne thinking. No way you should be happy with an honourable loss. I know Jones is out but we're an average side and you should be going into this game thinking you can win. We're probably mild favourites but we haven't been impressive home or away all year.

For those playing at home the weather is magnificent today. Currently 18 degrees and sunny. Had about 50mm of rain on Wednesday but the ground should be in good condition.

Was an intense game. You're right though, much happier with the points :p

Suddenly last night doesn't seem so bad.
I've had a fresh attack of perspective.

An irrelevant stat that everyone knows has absolutely no bearing on the game in any way, shape or form but the end of game free kick count

WCE: 27

MELB: 16

The Eagles keep on winning this stat. Got to be happy with that.

That statistics doesn't show where West Coast got those frees, and at what stage of the game WC got those frees. The Eagles were 4 goals down and got cheap frees that go them back into the game. It is a farce. It is pathetic and an absolute blight on the competition. Tonight was a joke. It should be investigated. The Melbourne victory tonight overshadows what was a blatant attempt of cheating by the umpires.

And for all this carry on, the Demons still won.
The better team wins 99.99% of the time.

Just like how the Eagles 16-8 free kick count v GWS resulted in a loss, but their 12-15 v Dogs resulted in a win.

Turnovers at crucial moments, dumb positioning and losing one-on-one contests - all by PLAYERS - are much more impactful than umpires

Can't help but feel that McGovern would be the biggest name in footy if he played at another club. Barrass and obviously Petrie also impressive.

Umpiring was pretty dog shit I thought and I'm not the type to say that every week and I feel it holds a bit more weight since we won. The bad calls did fall both ways, possibly favouring wce slightly bit that happens at those places.

Setting up for an epic showdown when both sides get some big boys back.

Great game.

Stop being reasonable and start focusing on the umpire bias. God, didn't you get the memo?

He got him high regardless of his intentions. How is it *not* a free? What does it being a loose ball matter if you hit someone high?
ummmm ....its a contact sport .....?.....so by that rational when a player knocks himself out in a tackle , say colliding with an opponents shoulder ala nick Riewoldt few yrs ago its a free too ?

Good level post mate.

Dee's are a quality up and coming unit. I really enjoy watching them play(not so much tonight though) - some genuine young guns emerging and they play exciting footy.

Was a great game, indeed.

Darling hasn't made it to the ground in about 3 years despite being named every week.

He shows up and does these cool handstand roll things when he hits the ground though, I think it's halftime entertainment except he does it for 120 minutes weekly.

**** this logic is stupid.

Riddle me this.

The umpires blatantly cheat to get the Eagles back into the game, right? But somehow, they don't cheat in the last couple of minutes to prevent the Demons from winning? They just cheat for a little bit and then get cold feet about their match fixing at the crunch time? So they actually suck at cheating and they can only attempt to cheat?

They made mistakes, yes. Obviously. Players made dozens more. But don't be a ****ing moron, there was no cheating.

If there was cheating from umpires, the Eagles would have been dragged over the line.

This is probably my favourite thing about West Coast. Every sides social media and fans has some weird little thing they go on about but the erections Eagles fans get over Darling getting off the ground is hilarious. Can't stand up in a final but boy he did a flip!

It's just an ongoing meme on the Eagles board since he debuted.

If you think we're all serious about it then you really need to stop taking the forums seriously. We make jokes about hiding potential draftees in tents because of Jack.
