Biggest ever comeback in a grand final at 3/4 is 24 points in 1984. They’d want to be a bit closer I’d reckon.
Maybe, but it's all mental. They'll both be knackered at that stage with the heat, in this scenario.
The crowd starts "Coooollingwoood, Coooollingwoood", get a quick goal or two, and tired Lions could try and save it, which won't end well if 20 points up with 15 minutes to go...

Think there's a bit of a rearguard action because a lot are saying it has an asterisk on it because of some of the umpiring calls.
The advantage late had to be called back and it would have been in prime scoring position, so it makes sense people are going to talk about it.
Some of my mob might struggle to be diplomatic / magnanimous in victory, we do cop -rightly or wrongly - a fair bit of stick from other fan bases and one or two of ours are bound to bite. 🤷‍♀️
Was an absolute cracker, shame there had to be a loser, Lions left it all out there and we just hung on. Pure relief, and commiserations to Lions supporters, their boys left it all out on the field.
I think it's because many of us opposition supporters have been on the receiving end of it and are rather tired of it hence now the talk about asterisks and whatnot.
St Kilda fans don't need endless reminding about 1 flag for instance
We know next year those supporters you talk about will be rubbing it in.

And for the record it isn't just Magpies fans. It's all the big clubs that do it

Fixing it isn't easy. It requires a side to be at bottom for a while.

But Congratulations on your sides win. It's been two hard fought years in the making.

Lol. I’m saying it’s bias but without it being a “conspiracy”. I’ve never believed, for example, that umpires are secretly instructed to ensure a certain outcome.

It’s more like there is an internal culture within the AFL that sees vic teams as being the “real” teams while everyone else is auxiliary. And naturally umpires are going to, in certain moments, act in the interests of their employer.
Yeah it’s absolutely a boys club and the umpiring reflects that culture. Doesn’t have to be a full blown conspiracy to spot fix games but there’s a subconscious bias to push narratives. Would be interesting to see the difference in decisions if they picked WAFL or SANFL umpires, obviously they’d be of lesser quality but there wouldn’t be a bias either way

To all the critics trying to detract from the the win, by focusing on the free - please reflect of the the reality.
Namely, Coll we’re in control for the entire day, had 9 more scoring shots, out coached BNE, and nullified their stars.
Coll we’re the better team, as all sensible neutrals attest.
Your pettiness hides your clear lack of football knowledge, and insight.

And BTW Coll also won expected score!!!!!

Soft 50 which was a 65 metre free
Rewarding head ducks but only when they feel like it
The botched advantage

It somehow got worse with the finals - which is rare. I would wager this Granny only ranks behind 2016 as least legitimate. Both teams got over GWS in a tight prelim with umpire help as well.
Hmmmm, interesting

9 lead changes and a 4 point margin isnt in control for the entire day. That’s pretty arrogant

Wonder if Nathan Buckley is having mixed emotions.

Must be soul-searching that the team improved pretty much instantaneously after he departed, and now within 2 years, the Pies are Premiers.

Similar to Leon Cameron watching the Giants. After a wobbly start, 2023 is arguably the best season ever.

Yes they each made a GF, but to not get the ultimate prize must be in a way disappointing.

Since the Pies lost to Brissy in rd23 at Etihad all the media would say is their defence is so leaky, and since they've only conceded 31, 53 and 57.

Now there's a lot of talk will the Pies kick enough of a score to beat Brisbane, but it's not like Brisbane have been kicking monster scores; they've avg 88 pts for the last 9 games, and conceded avg 80 pts.

~80 pts is probably what either team needs to win tomorrow, but whatever happens I can't see a 124-100 shootout like previously.

Over the same past 9 games period, Pies scored avg 86, conceded avg 80.

The numbers over the past couple months came to fruition... I told my mates last night I reckon 13 goals wins it, Brissy kicked 13 and lost it.

Went our way, what a day.

Advantage call was a shocker and I'd be ropeable if I was a Brisbane supporter. However, when they go home and punch a wall as they ice their broken hand they'll slowly come to the realisation that it was only Collingwood's bad kicking for goal that kept them in the game. Brisbane winning would have been as big a robbery as Adelaide in 98 and Hawthorn in 08.

Congratulation on winning your 5th premiership from your last 24 GFs. (Including 2 draws).
Yeah but it was only Melbourne's bad kicking for goal that kept Collingwood in the season
