The more I think about it, the more I think Collingwood will win this one easily.

They'll be seething from last week and Sydney were emotionally charged given their club celebrations. Not sure if they can back it up 2 weeks in a row.

Go away mate and stop pontificating for the sake of defending your teams apathy last week. You are as transparent as a
Myer Xmas Window.

The Swans will be tough to beat as always, but they are not as adept at covering the wide open spaces of the MCG as opposed to the postage stamp SCG. I think we will grind them down eventually. If we lose this one then I think we may find ourselves in a premiership hangover situation like the Cats last year. Having a premiership hangover isn't such a bad thing as it means that you actually won a premiership!! :) Which is the hardest thing to achieve in football.

Going to stick with the Pies at the G here. Unfurling the flag should provide enough motivation to put on a performance worthy of the occasion.

Pies by 7 points.

One of footy’s greatest myths. The SCG is a whole 2.5 metres shorter at each end than the MCG is, and a similar distance shorter on the wings. It’s very similar in dimensions to the GABBA, yet I have never once heard somebody refer to the postage stamp sized GABBA.

There is every chance you’re right and we lose this, but if we do it won’t be because we couldn’t handle the wide open spaces.

The playing area is almost 10% smaller …. 1200 m2 ?

Your maths needs some work. 1,163 square metres smaller than the 17,719 square metre MCG. 1,163 is only 6.6% (not “almost 10%”) of 17,719. So it’s a negligible difference; the way most people talk you’d think the SCG was only 75% of the size of the MCG.

Bigger playing area than Docklands, Giants Stadium and Adelaide Oval. Similar playing area to Optus Stadium and the GABBA. Yet none of those are constantly referred to as small grounds…

Like I said, if we lose it’ll be nothing to do with us not being able to handle some gigantic ground compared to ours.

Hey …. Never claimed my math was great, but I consistently tell people 6.6 is almost 10 …. It’s a habit

So, there is no excuse for the endlessly cramped. scrappy, no flow Sydney games. I always blamed it on the dimensions of the ground. Shame on Longmire and his team for serving up so much tripe over the years.

Nup none whatsoever. We do it just to annoy purists in Victoria for the lols.

Do all the speeches and guff early, but unfurl the flag 60 seconds before bounce down and let the noise swamp the ground.

Fair old uproar on SEN this morning… Pies are apparently unfurling the flag at 6pm when there’ll be about 50 people there. Weird.
It is the new age I guess.
Maybe the thinking is that was last year and we don't want to get ahead of ourselves for this year.

Perhaps they are worried they may upset or inspire the opposition by unfurling it at a time closer to commencement.

I don't get it personally, as flags don't come around that often, so embrace it and put it out there for all to see.

Soon you wont have to win the Grand Final anyway.
Melbourne already feel like they won everything on expected scores.

Next will be, as long as you identify as a Premiership winner, then you should get a cup also.

Either the world is going mad, or I am just fast becoming a grumpy old man.

Perhaps a bit of both.

Surely there’s a better solution such as this. Very strange stuff, apparently the MCC were very surprised and they are hosting.

There was some suggestion that Leigh Matthews’ comments about Collingwood “celebrating their flag” with the doco (how dare they) may have impacted it and they don’t want to be seen to be over celebrating.

Just weird all round and looks like a cockup.
