Is currie likely to play or just goldstein? As the extra hight could make match ups interesting.

I would be very surprised if we went with anyone other than Goldstein.

His elite endurance allows us to play another midfielder, and against a side like Collingwood, we will definitely need that extra midfielder.

I'd say, like we've addressed ad nauseum, in this situation Frost will be the next in line with the third tall match up, in your scenario Tarrant. Frost is a good match up for Tarrant as he is dour, hard working and quick. We will likely try to ensure that Maxwell is loose.

This would provide a very different looking Collingwood defence to what we have seen in recent years. In this case we would most likely leave the extra man back ourselves.

thats a nice team, where does luke ball fit in and daisy fit in when they come in?

They take the spots off Frost and Seedsman/Johnson then we re-jig the team a little bit as they are both starting 18.

Then it becomes interesting when the small forwards in Didak, Krakouer and Fasolo are fit and ready to go.
Just not enough room.

its a very good problem to have aye?

We loose Harvey, but gain Wells and Adams on the last time we played.

Harvey is definately a loss for us though, as we have a few others in the midfield to worry about these days.

Will be interesting to see how Cunnington goes, as he's probably been our best accross the pre-season.

Atley on someone like Sidebottom could be interesting too.

We have to be mindful of the North talls in the forward line, but it could work to our advantage if our defenders are up to the task, because if their talls don't influence the match then we might be able to generate a lot of run on the fast Etihad track. This is why I'm hoping the likes of Young and Seedsman play, and Shaw and O'Brien have an impact, because we need to really hit them hard on the rebound.

More than anything, though, our midfield needs to get the ascendancy, we have so much talent in there but that talent can only go so far if you don't want it as much, see the Adelaide midfield on the weekend who were made to look second rate by what isn't a particularly great Essendon midfield, we can't underestimate the Kangaroos again. Accountability is key, as we learnt last year the hard way in the prelim final, defensively our midfielders need to do their job in order to protect our defenders.

Last year against North we looked really flat footed, this year we have to be switched on from the outset and maintain the intensity for four quarters, pressure is absolutely key. That's how we made a name for ourselves as a great team, we need to see that side of our game brought back in a big way, otherwise we'll see the North forwards get silver service again.

Going to be a tough game, this one, this is North home turf and they play it well. Let's just hope Reid can play because I rate him as one of our most important players, but he's especially important against sides like North that can carve up undersized defences.

I'm very nervous about playing Brown, Reid and Frost.

IMO it's a little top heavy. Brown and Reid are first choice and if there is any niggles with the two that's when Frost should be looked at.

Can Buckley afford to chance himself with the North tall forwards again?

This is the defining selection strategy of the match.

If he goes in with just the two tall defenders and the Pies get exposed again, then he is going to have to wear some criticism.

This could be why Brad Scott is murmuring about Majak. He may just play him if the Pies go with 3 tall defenders.

Hey guys, sorry to intrude.
Just heard that Jack Frost was going to debut this week! Was just looking for opinions on Job Security and his chance of being vested? Cheers
if anything he should be sub, this year he wont see much action, dont forget we still have keefe to come back, so i think he may struggle to crack into the top team.

Don't get me wrong, they both have promise, but they aren't exactly a Stephen Milne or Cyril Rioli, or even a Didak (who will obviously be missing).

And the comment's more in relation to your strength being your tall forwards, not so much having no real standouts as small forwards being a bad thing, it didn't hurt you much last year (4th for average goals).

I just would prefer us not to use Toovey on Adams or Harper, Thomas is much more dangerous and Toovey is the best matchup there.
If we require Toovey to go tall, I honestly wouldn't mind playing Shaw on Thomas. Shaw's a great asset for us, and if they decide to isolate him in the goalsquare again like last time, then our midfield pressure could cause quite a few turnovers from them bombing it long on his head.

I also feel Thomas's defensive pressure isn't great at times, and he usually has his hands on his hips by quarter time.

Should be interesting though.

why waste shaw on thomas, shaw would rip him to shreads, lindsay would be crying by half time.

Exactly. Or would you rather he play in the square on Hansen again and have no effect on the game? :p
