Just because a player is listed 1st in the emergencies doesn't mean he'll be the inclusion if there is a late withdrawal. They're not going to bring in Gillies if a player like Bartel,Kelly or Varcoe [just some examples folks,so relax ;)] withdrew.
Depends how many fly, sometimes only one emergency goes with the team so if an injury goes to a different player then he'd have to play, but agree otherwise.

yep, this is an insulting team and reminds of the shit team we played against lions in 2009 and got smashed. gc are no push over and have won at least a quarter most weeks. I expect a GC memorable win at their new home ground with a special performance by ablett like brennan did against lions.

I'll give it to you, you got some bites.

Cats by 50. Won't be a walk in the park but can't see us getting down, too big for them. Will be interesting to see how much needless money they've pumped in to what will never be a decent AFL venue.

Hawkins ahead of Menzel?? WTF??

I had to look twice when I saw the way the teams lined up today. I honestly thought the reason Menzel wasn't picked was due to injury but no, he's an emergency!! Menzel an emergency?? Now please explain what Hawkins has done to get a spot in the side ahead of Menzel. This is officially the first puzzling choice made by Chris Scott IMO. Unless he was overruled by the rest of the selection committee that is. Chris Scott has said that Hawkins played his part the other week. I'll be buggered if I know what it was though

This selection is as puzzling as when the club kept picking Kent Kingsley.

If I was Menzel I'd be asking what else do I have to do?

Re: Hawkins ahead of Menzel?? WTF??

Well Hawkins will be second ruck, and as for Menzel I'd say he will either be a late replacement for someone or they felt like another week off would do him good. I don't think there is any doubt he is in the best 22 at his stage.

Re: Hawkins ahead of Menzel?? WTF??

I would've thought Menzel would be the ideal forward replacement for Hawkins whilst he gets some form in the magoos and Moons second ruck.

Chappy flew up with the team, surely if he was to be withdrawn they wouldnt bother taking him up there.

*footage of the team at the airport on CH10 sports report, Chappy clearly there

Well Hawkins will be second ruck,......

That pretty much explains it.

Unless of course, you think that Menzel should be second ruck.

Re: Hawkins ahead of Menzel?? WTF??

I reckon that Menz will line up in lieu of a 'name' player (eg Chappy). But the club couldn't do so up front as it would be 'disrespectful' to the GC suns. (see ajoining thread!)

It was, until you opologised

:D:D:D:D:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Made me laugh....

Hey I like " SPLOD" .... it has a ring to it. Like dropping jelly from a great height to a concrete floor....I reckon we'll splod Gold Coast on Saturday....no problem!

Take a chill pill dude or you'll stress out

Menzel was also at the airport

Am I the only one who thinks Hawkins' form is reasonable this year? Had a shocker against Saints but otherwise has been ok in every game.

I agree with you bullet...Hawkins is just an easy target. If you look at games closely, he does his bit.

He deserves his place IMO.

What's with the press conference Bo?? Am I missing something??

LOL you mean the year they finished 6th and made the finals? Now I'm convinced you're in the early stages of dementia.
no, we were disinterested and sore after the saints game, and played accordingly, all who saw it said we didn't come to play. I remember that, so how do you diagnose dementia?

Hawkins is needed because Vardy can't ruck the whole game by himself, and as I said last week, neither he nor Pods will be dropped.

Mooney should go out for Menzel-not doing much up forward, too slow to have an impact in defence and can barely jump so not much value in the ruck either.

Menzel will play, it's just a question of who comes out as "general soreness".

Kelly was there and it seems Gillies is travelling,so two emergencies going probably means a certain change.

Gillies eh? That surprises me, would've thought it'd be Guthrie definitely if based on form. Gillies form has not been great lately. Therefore it must be positional rather than form, in which case either Lonergan hasn't quite come up, or Scarlett/Mackie/Milburn late out you'd say. They could also be thinking a tactical switch with the Suns playing 3 tall forwards maybe.

If Gillies and Menzel doesn't that's flat out ridiculous though-positional needs maybe but we did play 1 tall defender against Freo. So hopefully both are late inclusions.

IM Actually tipping a Suns win -dont like the look of our side one little bit-a novice ruckman plus a 1st gamer -plus Mooney hasnt played for a month .Add to that one or 2 of the emergencies will play . The Suns were very good for a half against Adelaide in Adelaide -ifr they play like that for 4 qtrs they will win
Also Geelong have a shocking record against new INTERSTATE TEAMS IN THEIR 1ST MATCH against us .In fact every new interstate team ie (Brisbane bears eagles , crows ,dockers and port adelaide all defeated Geelong in their 1st match against us -so we are going for 6 straight losses against the Suns .Iwould settle for a 1 point win

Even Dasher was not around in 87. I am glad our players don't carry the same mental scars that some supporters do from the late 80s-90s.

I wonder how many years of relentless winning it would take before there was some confidence in this group of players?

We have an inexperienced ruckmen, the gold coast has an inexperienced team.

They should be about odds of 20-1. 20-1s get up every now again but seriously, tipping them?

Do you understand how inexperienced their side is?

Seriously, I will grant you our side looks weaker than usual, but if we don't win this, it won't be because of the team on paper...the team we have put in for this week is more than good enough to beat these kids, and beat them well, if everyone works hard and has the right attitude.

On the ruck combo, it's fine, while I think it's a big ask for a 2nd gamer and Vardy will get shaded by Smith, it is absolutely the right decision, we are stuffed if we run Otto into the ground.
