Yes, hadn't thought of that, Machiavellian. ;)
Bit tough on the bloke (presumably Blicavs) who misses out on a game, but all's fair...etc.
Anyway, we'll know Saturday morning.

Well I tipped they'd retain Blicavs. And he's in the side.
I don't think they'll bring Vardy in. He was less than impressive against the Giants.

I hope Blicavs is only in because of rain.

Really need to get games into Vardy to see if he is going to be our 2nd ruck ahead of West when it comes to finals.

Disagree, Blic is a proven performer all year, we know he is robust, fit, resilient and fast. Vardy would be an unreliable option as a ruck, albeit #2, needs a LOT MORE game time to prove his hips don't require him to be rested alternate weeks. I'd be more than comfortable going into a finals series with a FIT Simpson, assisted by an even fitter Blicavs.

OK. I was thinking Varcoe as sub and Vardy in . Big ask for Varcoe but is it just me or does he love the G. Smedts will be trying super hard to get back in cause they a bye coming up in the VFL don't they?
Love TV.
But in my wildest dreams I can't see him as sub.
Not the type of game to rack up possessions and do damage.
He's either fit or he isn't.

I don't know that one, what happened there?

Something like....

Parkin still says its one of his few regrets. Promised certain things when he went there. Come GF day stripped and ran out with the team , just to confuse the other side. Came back in and change back into his civies. Dont think DC was overly happy about it.

And yet super impressive against the gold coast.....go figure.

Vardy will play at some stage, so will West and so will Macintosh. Going to be interesting who gets nod come finals

All you can say though is the current rucks are there entirely on merit.

Would rather Vardy in for Blicavs 'this is a big boy game' but I yet again admire Chris Scott's methods of sticking with players and giving them confidence.

Varcoe as emergency is playing to the crowd, more a wink at Clarko than a serious contender to play.

When you think of it, if Varcoe is fit and been given the all clear by the doctors, then him coming in as a sub has real merit. He would probably have had only limited game time in the VFL regardless - why not chuck him in the 1's - surely an underdone Varcoe would have more impact as a sub than Murdoch 8/10 times?

Something delicious about the prospect of a Geelong v Hawthorn game with Varcoe and Thyril as the subs too....both come on simultaneously early in the 4th quarter with scores level....!

Because this game doesn't matter as much as Varcoe not getting re-injured first up.

Let him gradually come in through the VFL not first up in a pressure game.

Varcoe has been out too long to come straight in for a game this big. VFL for Trav this week.

There is no way Murdoch should be holding his place, especially in a game like this. Smedts in, Murdoch out.

I highly doubt Cyril will play on Saturday night. He has a history of hamstring injuries, hasn't played for 10 weeks, and it's meant to be cold and wet. Not ideal conditions for someone with dodgy hammies.

And when was the last time we were beaten by a team that had one of our discards?
Possibly 09, Saints, but it would not be frequent.
I always feel a sense of slight satisfaction that a team is playing a player we couldn't fit in our best 22, even if he deserved to be there, which in this case is dubious at best.We must have an edge.
I seem to remember that King was suspended back then, and didn't play. What about Mumford last year, the first game v Swans. Although I would not really call Mummy a discard. Did Scott Thomson play any senior games with Geelong?

:thumbsu: They would want to wrap him in cotton wool for the rest of the year. Do not want another 9 week injury...

Not sure about that. Word has it he has been training really hard recently so the feeling is he's ready to play.

He was never listed, unfortunately.
