Ash McGrath has accepted a one week ban... helps us, as he's torn us apart a couple of times lately (Brownlow votes when they beat us last year) and is a handy small defender.

A lot of people on the Brisbane board seem to think Fev will miss?

Correct me if I am wrong, but alot of Brisbane supporters are angsy about Fev, which is why there are calls for him to be dropped. I dont think there is any particular injury he has, just alot of wishes for him to be ommitted. sort of like us with Brynes/Blake :p

I didn't know about the whole Hawkins having to change his style to avoid further injuries to his feet.

It doesn't sound good.

I'm depressed.

That news is a couple of years old from when he first injured his foot. He was told that because of his structure he had to change the way he both ran and kicked to avoid long term injury. He's been dealing with it since then.
Remember he's only recently stopped growing and has changed his body shape significantly in the past 2 years. That's why it takes these big kids a while to mature. they have to "learn" their new bodies. We will start to see the very best of Tom in 2012-2013 in my opinion.

This week I'd love to see these changes:

Out: Lonergan/Blake/Hogan/Mackie
In: Milburn/Hawkins/SJ/Duncan

Would be harsh on Lonergan and Blake, but good in the long run. Lonergan was destroyed last year when we got done in Brisbane. Although if JB and Fev are both fit and named he could be given another week to make amends for last weeks (one-off) shocker..

If Hawkins is ready to run hard, he offers so much more than Blake at ground level (obviously) and Ottens/Hawkins can handle ruck duties anyway. Blakey is getting better and should not be forgotten, but if Pods is named it's gotta force us to drop another big man.

Pods may well be rested the following week when we travel to Sydney, and Blake would come straight back in.

I'd like to see these changes too - but it ain't gonna happen.

Not sure SJ will be fit anyway. Milburn should be a certain starter - Duncan seems to have more to offer than Hogan (admittedly 'potential') - Hawkins did little in the twos and no way do I see Mackie being dropped by the selectors.

So I reckon we will just see Milburn come back this week and hopefully SJ next week. Hawkins could be 2 weeks away - depending on form.

It is such a pity our twos are decimated and playing badly. Hawkins up forward does not get to see the ball often nor is it well delivered. However he should still do a few more things - dominate somewhat - before making Blake make way.

Blake is consistent and reliable. Not a good thing for a team to see him dropped - unless it became obvious to all Hawkins was playing so well he just had to be back in the seniors at the expense of Blake.

For anyone who's interested Balme just said:
-Brown looks to be gone for the season with the shoulder
-Varcoe Adam is also gone for the year and may need another ACL reco :(
-Jesse Stringer is about to go in for more hip surgery and is done for the year (this explains where he is because I thought he must be dead or something)
-Max will be back from the US soon but no update on any possible return to football
-SJ, Dasher and Drum will all be tested and are all a good chance to return to footy this week, the latter in the twos.
-On Dr Geoff Allen, he said we think he'll miss this week but he might be a chance for next week (that's really what he said so don't tell me off for saying it)

Wasn't there an article back in 08 that said they needed to help Hawkins change his running style due to the areas of his foot where he was placing too much pressure?

He has issues. And he would definitely be placing more pressure on the foot doing ruck work. You can't deny that surely.

FWIW I think they'll play all 5 of mooney, pods, hawkins, ottens and blake until
a) one gets injured
b) it doesn't work.

But they'll try it first.

To be honest I don't know, I'm not qualified to say. Anyway from what Amos said on the weekend it seems to be they are considering him to be fit to return to ruck duties, which is good for Tom in the sense that if he can play both roles that increases his chance of being able to come straight back in.

If he can't ruck then it becomes a more challenging thing because the coaching staff have to decide they're prepared to play the three talls in the forward line. But you may be right, they might trial it out for the next month, and see how it goes.

Nah Pods should play this week. Its Skilled! He is pretty much guaranteed to kick five goals :p Give him the week off next week, when we travel to Sydney.

No, ive never seen him play. He must play in Sydney!!.

As a typically selfish resident of Sydney, I second the latter - or as we say in Sydney: "second the latte'" (although I did see him play against the Dorks a couple of weeks ago in our annual family pilgrimage south to the Holy G).

Besides, I've been running around Olympic Park with a spray can 'adjusting' the woord "Olympic" to "Skilled" so as to fool Pods that he's still really at home. And there will be a hell of a lot of Catters attempting to make this a home away from home game, so I do expect 5 of the best!!!

(Self Self Self!!!)
:D

I don't think that Ottens has had enough games for him and Hawkins to hold the ruck. Blake and Hawkins maybe, but given that Ottens has to play, I think that we need Blake to take most of the load until Ottens gets his fitness up.

LOL...good on you for your dedication to the cause :thumbsu:

Bomber confirmed Dasher and SJ will play, they haven't decided whether Hawkins will play VFL or AFL.

So either one of Pods or Lonners is dropped, or a premiership player has to be dropped. Will be very interesting come 5pm tomorrow.

Nah! Can't drop Pods, he's an S.S specialist. :p

Really, we should win this in a canter. But a big win against poor opposition isn't really what we need this time of year aside from a bit more confidence. It's a good thing we still have to play Footscray, Collingwood and our current bogey team Carlton before finals.

I'd probably anticipate a 10 goal plus win here given Brisbane's terrible form - plus the fact we always seem to belt them at home.

I reckon that we have not played as well this year because of the large number injuries we have had so far this season.

I just hope we can keep this week's team on the park for a few weeks and I think we will see the team slowly regain some of the form that makes us the best team to follow and watch in the AFL.

If Ottens, SJ and Corey all start playing well in the same team at the same time we will be a lot more competitive than we are now.

Big games coming up but with any luck we will have a pretty much a full side to pick from and most will have had enough game time to get some match fitness and form - so there will be no excuses. We should know soon if we are going to go into the finals with enough form to be confident of us going back to back.

So I would be just happy to see us with a near full team play this week and see them playing a little better - winning well and starting to build for the finals to come.

PS. Good to have Milburn back as well. Somehow he keeps keepin' on. Still a good, reliable player for us.

Quick question, im heading down for this match from the Mornington Peninsula, whats the best time to get there to get a good G.A seat and where is a good, safe, cheap place to park?

The gates open at 12 o'clock, so you'd want to get there pretty soon after if you want a GA seat (there's no VFL game on beforehand, so it's a bit of a wait!)

You'll have no trouble getting a free parking spot in a side street close to the ground if you do get there early- good luck :thumbsu:

what are the chances of turning up on the day and using my membership for a general admission ticket?

You should have no trouble getting a GA ticket for this game on the day, I have 2 friends who do this close to game time most weeks without a problem, especially against interstate teams who aren't travelling so well!
