I guarantee our team would have had a completely different gameplan/style in that first quarter if Clarkson were in charge.

Yeah apparently we’ve only spoken to his manager so far (as of last week) not sure if this has changed over the last few days
 
My take on it is simple - we need to go hard for Clarko to show him he’s pretty much our only target and paint a picture of unity and a clear set of goals. This has to be a well thought through presentation that should blow him away.

After that if he says yes I honestly wouldn’t bother with the bullshit charade of fake interviews. There is absolutely no need to pander to other people’s expectations. We have our bloke and we are clear that he’s the one. 5 year deal already throws any risk management component out the window.

FWIW, all the news coming from his speech at Melbourne United function point to a successful outcome for us. If we don’t get him we’ve blown it basically and our board isn’t fit for purpose

Of course you don't put a guy like Clarkson through an interview process.

Nevertheless, it is prudent that the board not rush things and they don't need to either. If Clarkson is interested, he will wait. We have to digest the Walsh report, prepare for all contingencies and ensure he is the best fit before approaching him.

I get it, but really if a guy like Clarkson says he is interested in the job and everything stacks up, do you really think there is going to be a better option out there?

I find it hard to believe we will go the untried coach given the last 2 we’re spectacular flops.

If we are being honest if Clarkson wants the job its his. So why waste others time with a Clayton’s process?

If he does want the job Tom Browne just did us a favour by pissing him off with the outrageous salary claim. No way he is going to ask for a ridiculous contract after going out of his way to get angry about it.
 
Am I remembering it wrong, or can someone confirm that at one point Kane said 'north should look at trading to get a player like polec into the club' then when we got him and before he had really played (and shown his shittruckness) said 'why did they go for someone like Polec? terrible recruiting!' ?

Let me correct myself you do interview him but not as part of a formal process against other candidates.

You still have to see whether you align on key issues.

To be honest, given where we’re at as a club, I could imagine it would be quite a challenge for the Board to convince Clarko that we’re not a basket case and that moving to north is not a massive risk to his time and reputation.

Given a new Chair who is not a football person and question marks over the likes of Amarfio and Schnoz, I’ll imagine the influence of credible football people, such as Walsh be hugely important to convince Clarko he can be successful at North. Personally, I’ll be impressed with the Board’s sales skills if they can make this happen.
 
Any discussions with Clarko would be about how he wants the footy department set up, what he needs in place to succeed etc. Not whether he is worthy of the role. We're not going to announce anything until all that is in place I wouldn't have thought.
