Further to the above, just think, biosecurity risk where half or more of Army and Police personnel are impacted by a virus or similar, and if we have riots, then Governments have technology solutions to sub-due populations if necessary. Its actually smart planning.
If they exist why didn't China use them in Hong Kong?

Does the "no more than 100 people in an enclosed space" restrictions apply to shopping centres? If so, I'd love to see how they're going to police it at places like Westfield in Geelong, where there's multiple entry/exit points.

Does it apply in businesses with more than 100 people as well? If so, if a company has 150 people working from the one site, do 50 people have to have a day off every 3rd day?

shopping centres exempt as they are deemed an essential place

Same as supermarkets, schools etc

Entertainment venues (such as cinemas) aren't deemed necessary, so they are have to keep to this restrictions

There are "essential" and "non essential" places. "Essential" places are exempt.

My work is deemed "essential" plus my work considers me "critical" so not going to be able to work from home unless government forces everyone to.

Good and bad I suppose. They've kicked a lot of people out of the office to work from home so hopefully I'm still critical when they start laying people off :'(

Can someone smart explain why 16 minutes quarters are preferred in this current situation?
Expecting to have to play shortened ganes later in the year so they can play them on 4 day turnarounds. This will let them play 3 games every 2 weeks and turn around the season quicker

Its not so simple there. Hong Kong have their own Law Enforcement. The HK population would then be informed if the Chinese Army/Govt were doing this, and that wouldn't be a good outcome for a province that China wants to keep.

The police force that was firing rubber bullets, tear gas, and some actual bullets was worried about a non-lethal crowd control giving them bad press, in a country in which they control the press?

From what I understand teams may be playing multiple games per week, or on very short breaks, so less game time to compensate.
I reckon its a great idea. Kudo's to AFL for their decisions. Smart choices.
Plus it probably favours teams with aging stars and odd ground dimensions ! :)

Razor Ray was trying out his new uniform earlier today...

Unsure on whether shorter quarters are good or bad for us.

Either we won't give up as big a lead in Q1 or we won't have as much time to try and make it up

But I honestly don't even care about the footy.

It will suit fast teams with elite foot skills.

The quicker this season is called off the better it will be for our mods. :p

Seriously, if you were an AFL umpire right now, you'd be demanding a massive pay-rise before the bounce tomorrow.
Tbh they're pretty fit and not in an age risk group. If they're gonna get it anyway they probably wouldn't care that much.

I think though that umpires being out for injury with this is going to cause some howlers. The pool of good umpires isn't deep

But that's the issue - the age-risk group doesn't matter. Chances are they survive, but how many umps can the AFL afford to have in self-isolation?

It would be. It's like they're forcing it down our throats on the radio though.
"People need footy to get through this tough time"
Not really.

Yeah, people will have different views for me it's bittersweet I haven't even looked at the sides for tomorrow.

Personally I'm getting no pleasure or enjoyment out of Geelong playing. Or games with empty stadiums.

I don't understand once in a lifetime or 100 year event Australians only people to send teams travelling around the country to tackle each other.

Then again just depends on your mindset if you value it as part of your life for me it's just a game and so many bigger things going on right now I just don't like the risk profile or don't see a point to it with such an uncertain future.

It's also the public ramifications I don't like media if an AFL player tests positive for Covid it will be plastered everywhere in our face 24/7. And it ripples through communities because people idolise players kids everyone. So I can see scenarios where it sends even more panic through communities.

Players self isolating from partners, No VFL, State, Bushleague footy but this show can go on. When footy is on and the public can't play it's in your blood makes you want to go outside and kick and play even more. So I'm not sure if it sends a good or bad message to the community.

The good is I suppose and the club support staff stay employed.

I'm not worried about the AFL or Players, Club coaches at senior level who get paid generously.

I just feel uncomfortable about it best way to say it, yeah I get it the fanatics and footy lovers will always push for it and say it's in our blood and culture we need it etc.

I just look at what the world is going through preventive measures others are taking and shrug my shoulders
