Analysis Assistant Changes for 2023

It's pretty s**t that 2023 can be just about be considered a write off already. Such a waste of time.
On the bright side I am going to save hundreds of dollars. The club has done nothing worthwhile in the off-season to warrant me to renew my memberships or keep them by downgrading.

Hopefully Clarko and Fagan survive or 2 more candidates will be gone. On the other hand I hope they crash and burn 🤷

Surely North would turn their attention back to Hinkley?

The earliest any report is going to come from this 4 person independent council is the end of November. By then pre season will have started. Absolutely no chance that either Brisbane or North would be able to poach a senior coach from elsewhere for season 2023 if Clarkson and/or Fagan were permanently relieved of their duties.

I know we want Ken gone, but he is unfortunately sticking for 2023.

So what will the club manta be for 2023?
Not this year..
He’s almost gone..
Change is coming …. Eventually
At lease we’re not as shit as North…

I dont mind the changes. Carr for Monty is going to be a big upgrade - whilst I can't go into details, just take a look at Monty's career and how he has left every club acrimoniously.

Chad's best skills are in development and he still is a good club man to have around. When he was Maggies coach he played a fairly aggressive attacking style, so I hope some of that can translate to the forward line.

Bassett is better suited down back imo. He was defence coach from 16-18. There were clear teething issues in 2016 but I would suggest that was due to having immobile key backs in Carlile and Trengove.

It's maximising the coaching staff's skill sets without breaking the bank, allowing for a fresh start in 2024 if Hinkley finishes up at the end of 2023 as is the expectation.

Running the club like its 2012.

These idiots are gonna leave it in the same state as it was when they arrived.

Literal poverty effort.

You're making an assumption that the Board have put together the coaching staff.

The Board don't have a say in the operations of the footy department. They put CD and Hinkley in place to run it. Then they give them the necessary capital to run it. Having spoken to Board members and past Board members in the last month, all will tell you that Hinkley has been afforded every opportunity by the Board to have whatever he deemed necessary for the footy department to have success under his watch.

Surely the “youf” line gets used. We’ll hear how brave Kenny is for playing young guys and how he deserves to see out the rebuild.

And yet here we are. Every Board member that has had a finger nail on Hinkley's tenure from the 2017 extension onwards, Davies and Hinkley themselves should be sacked.

So who do you reckon was in charge of going after Josh Carr?

Very easy to say that, and if the Club had unlimited funds and weren't essentially run by the AFL, many of these individuals would no longer be at the Club.

The simple fact is that the Club needs to get their debt down and become financially free of AFL control. At that point, the future of the Club will look a lot brighter. I personally think they were on the right track with China until covid completely screwed that up.

If you think the Board are completely tied to Hinkley and exhibit Rucci like homerism behind closed doors, then I can only suggest that you're mistaken.

Can only make an educated guess, but given Carr is coming back to SA for family reasons, I wouldn't be surprised if he put himself forward to the Club (ie CD) via his manager, and then CD suggested to Ken it would be a good idea given they wanted Monty out of there.

The club is hamstrung by its own decision making with regard to Hinkley and the assistant coaches' tenures. That excuse simply does not wash.

For the sake of my sanity, I need to keep telling myself that the club is just setting Hinkley up to fail, but I'm struggling to convince myself.

  • Bassett to defence is fine - has no business talking to our forwards.
  • Carr - fine.
  • Lobbe - rucks is fine, not remotely qualified for the other part.
  • Cornes - should be running water.

Better than what we had, but this is a bargain bin group.
To be fair to Lobbe, with Development - Mental Health and Well-being is a massive part of the development of Players. Something he is plenty of experience in.

Hartlett - however took the easy route as a player and sat on the back flank rather than developed as a player.

Money wouldn't be as big as an issue if we sacked him years ago , the amount lost on memberships, merch and crowds by keeping him.

We've been biting our own hand for 5 plus years and we're now repping what we sowed

Who said I said it was an excuse?

They ****ed up giving him the extension in 2017. But the bigger **** up was giving him a 2 year extension prior to the start of the 2021 season. A 1 year extension at the most would have been far more logical, and would have allowed the Club to get out of his contract at the end of this past season. Alas, because they are receiving considerable finance from the AFL (in conjunction with their debt position), they don't have the luxury of being able to pay the senior coach out of their contract like Rutten at Essendon.

So whilst it's clear they've made mistakes regarding Hinkley's contract, I think it is the smart move - the right move, to position the footy department in such a way that if they fail next year (as we expect them to), it will allow for a clean break and for a new coach to bring in their preferred team without having any members of Team Hinkley still with the Club simply because they're still under contract.

The club and its mouthpieces have continually said we cannot afford to pay Hinkley out. The club's situation is of its own doing and they are hamstrung by their own incompetence. I didn't mean to imply you were the one making excuses.
I have no confidence this regime is positioning themselves in case of failure. Their track record proves it and we're going nowhere until they're all gone, particularly Davies and Hinkley.
