I'll never claim to know much about assistant coaches. I'd love us to get Tudor though. Experienced, successful where ever hes gone and worked under some seriously good and tough coaches. Can't imagine he'd have any issue telling Buckley hes wrong!

The last thing we need is a bunch of retired players being brought in as trainee assistant coaches. Luke Hodge is the one exception to that. Really want him. We need to target the best of the experienced assistants out there... The ones who will have the gravitas to impact on our wonder coach's self assured obstinance.
I want: 1. Ratten, 2 Dew 3. Hodge ... We have our ready made succession plan there (which were gonna need).
Guys like Hodge and Johnson are excellent choices as development coaches. Obviously you'd want more experienced heads as line coaches.

All true but to appoint him means you support him. You don't appoint his heir Apprent now assuming or expecting him to fail soon. It's a negative attitude.

Besides as I said I highly doubt dew or ratten would agree to join in those circumstances.

The Malthouse situation was different as he was given an actual end date at the start of the transition period. And he was a lot older.
Well it's a quandry then because I don't see how bringing in a bunch of new no-name assistants is going to help much. Surely we seek out the absolute best available and really throw some $$ at them this time. We need assistants who have a real voice of authority and can meaningfully create improvement on their own rather than just be implementing what they are instructed to do.
Come to think of it... If Bucks has to be reappointed then I want coaching by committee to see if that can work. Will probably make a camel but we know we get an ass if it's all left up to Bucks, so worth a try.
No one has ever tried that actually... Could have a committee of say 3 head coaches.. all with equal say, and a mentor arbiter, 4 assistants, democracy rules. Coaching by committee...yeah I like it! Bring in leading teams to help the coaching team bond... Happy days

Theres plenty of decent candidates below Dew and Ratten. As I said there is no reason for them to be tempted away from their current roles unless there is a senior role on offer.

fun? The reason he was booted from the crows cause the players hated him as he was clueless at man management

What he did or didn't do at the crows is not relevant to what he is doing at Collingwood?

Is he doing what you've suggested at Collongwood?
Is he detested by the playing group?

If not, what's the problem?

If he is behaving poorly to them, then yes, thanks for coming.

The other ironic thing is we have assistants who have more qualifications than Buckley does from a coaching stand point…
Wow.

I'm not sure that this should really be so 'Wow'. There have been and will continue to be former senior coaches happy to take on an assistant role, keen to keep coaching in some capacity in the AFL system, and many of them will end up working alongside coaches with less experience. I don't see this as odd or in any way negative.

What matters is that there are lines of communication. Less experienced assistants need some scope to learn their craft and maybe to also develop their own ideas/philosophies, more experienced assistants need the scope to apply their experience in a way that doesn't upset the balance.

Burns came to us highly rated and he's one I would have liked to have seen retained. Hawthorn would be a good career move for Burns and his departure shows we're not going to be clouded by sentiment when it comes to our assistants.

I'm starting to think who are we seriously going to get who will want to come to Collingwood under Buckley?
Especially when pressure will be extremely high.

We won't be attracting any high quality assistants…therefore you wonder what difference more poor quality assistants will achieve with our current coach?

Wow.

And what's the point of new assistants, with new views on how the game should be played if Bucks isn't gonna listen anyway.

So for the last 6 years we've basically had Bucks' hand picked assistants where they all share the same views on how the game should be played.

Now we gonna have a new group of guys with differing views. Bucks won't be able to manage that. He won't be flexible enough. It's a recipe for disaster.

Maybe it was a bit silly but it would be a big task for someone to respond to every silly post
True true

All good.

Spot on.

We cannot afford to bring in rookie assistant coaches. If as it seems Buckley is likely to be reappointed (god this this board going to melt) then we really need to ensure we bring in some quality around him. I'd be very keen to pinch Ratten.

Glad Harvey is going. Burns I'm not so sure about as there were big wraps on him a few seasons back

And if burns is going to hawthorn seems that he is well rated.

Be good for him to have another line manager that add to the CV

The Emperor has had enough chats to people - the last we need is Ed chatting - get some rigour into the joint

I agree with the gist of your post but it's about a few little chats here and there being used judiciously. If Ed can convince someone like Hodge to be a part of a proper process when otherwise he may have taken a year off for example then I am all for Ed using his existing connections/friendships.

If the Emperor is capable of being judicious - fine by me - his public record in this regard scores about 4.5/10

I assume that Burns has just been smart and realised early on that he had every chance of being thrown under the bus by the club in its effort to retain Buckley. Even if he wanted to stay I hope that he was putting the feelers out for his own sake.
