If I recall correctly he has the second worst average of a top 6 bat for Australia to play a decent amount of Tests. The only guy with a worse average is George Giffen who played on uncovered pitches in the 1880's.
He was Australia's leading all-rounder of those days, his first-class batting record was about 6 runs per innings better.

Yeah that's true, this is the worst Aussie top 6 I can remember, we have one quality test batsman and even he is out of form even in a home series we haven't got a single hundred which is more what you expect from minnow test sides.

issue is SMarsh and Usman needed to step up. Having Smith in the 4 who was ultra consistent and with Warner/SMarsh/Usman really hid our issue of having another 1-2 players who you could build an innings around. In the end the past 2-3 years our Tail has consistently added 40-50 runs which is brilliant. But it probably made us fail to address the fact a lot of players were not building innings. It showed today and yesterday. They are good enough to be out there, and make 20 runs. None can build an innings.

Nothing against Harris/Paine because they look like honest players, with Paine being a pretty good keeper. But our highest run scorer is Head, Who has serious flaws. Then its Paine and Harris. Which is woeful

I know his declaration put you guys in a great position, but were you a bit pissed Kohli declared in the first innings before you could score a double ton?

You know me too well mate, I was a little sad that I couldn't get my double ton but I save it for ODIS

It has been a test of mental atruity, our players turned off mentally like us when they saw the state of the pitch and made a negativity ,like we did instead of playing it on it’s merits.

These pitches are an Indian staple.

India are beating a transitional Australia,no Smith or Warner in.

Take Dusty and Rance out of the Richmond team,we struggle.

Pendles and Sidebottom out of Collingwood, the same.

I still say if we batted first, the test would not be nowhere near as one sided.

Or Nic Nat, Gaff and Shepard out of West Coast...lol.

Actually do see your point.

Yeah has a great record for the time, but he is comparable to Marsh in a way since he threatened not to tour England unless his brother got into the Test team, and his brother is probably unironically the worst cricketer to represent Australia: http://www.espncricinfo.com/australia/content/player/5383.html
