Australia vs New Zealand 3rd Test Adelaide

Just heard on the radio Starc will be out for he rest of the summer as he has an early stage stress fracture of the third metatarsal  :(
Oh that really is bad news for him. Might have been the workload he's carried over the past 12 months. Has played alot of cricket.

Can't really make an assessment after 1 day, but nothing to knock it so far.

Got to see how it goes when things go wrong first.
Yeah. Despite my cynicism above I'm more than willing to give the concept a go.

Just don't need the cliche-laden sales pitch from word butchers like Warne after less than a day.

I do. I went to the Cows vs Freo game this year where there was 45k and there was barely any spare seats (and that's without a sight screen taking up a decent amount of seats). The top of the Eastern stand is like 25% full at best, unless there's like 10k SACA members outside there isn't anywhere near 47k there.
There would have been close to that many members out the back, and many people in the outer hanging out in bars. You need to go to a Test at AO to truly understand what members is like.

Starc done for the summer. Gee our bowling line up is going to be interesting. They want to rest Hazelwood and Patto is brittle.

Too much bowling on hard roads. I'm sure Johnson gave it up because of roads being provided and I wonder if Starc's injury was brought on by two tough back to back Tests on such unforgiving pitches.

The only time I can remember the members being as full as it was yesterday was the first day of the 06/07 Ashes.

I really wish this was a 5 test series V New Zealand, West Indies are a weak side and don't even have their best side playing. Could be real boring watching us smash them. New Zealand are a good side but are playing below themselves but are just starting to look as if they are improving.

God.

Do you reckon the producers told the Nine commentators to pump up the product or what?

Now Nicholas too.

Yep, pretty obvious wasn't it? There was Brayshaw going on about the seam being upright and angled towards 2nd slip, and there's me thinking, "I can't even see the seam, let alone know where's it angled". These guys were obviously on good lolly to convince the public as to the merits of day/night Tests and pink balls.

As I've said, let's wait and see how we view it after Day 5 when the novelty has worn off, and another time when we see the pink ball last 80 overs on an abrasive surface. Then I make up my mind how I think about it.

Injured, not playing(just back from injury but copped a suspension), probably injured, might need to take a few wickets but it's not like there's much to choose from.
Yep, we have some great fast bowlers, just can never keep them all on the park at the same time.

Starc, Patto, Hazlewood, Cummins, Siddle, Coulter-Nile, Berhendorff is a pretty imposing list, but outside of Hazlewood and Siddle, they are all either injured or returning from injury.

Haha, I didn't realize our team massuer acted as the sub fielder yesterday! What a legend!

Yes, good on him. But it begs the question why we don't have at least a couple of grade cricketers at the ground for substitute duties (unless the masseur is a grade cricketer too of course).

Conspiracy theory: The first two pitches were intentionally flat and boring so that when a normal pitch was prepared for Adelaide it would make the game seem better by comparison.

After the over the top reaction of the commentators last night this wouldn't surprise me. It's quite clear that everyone involved in this test has been told to only talk positively about it, it's almost like they are trying to brainwash everyone. Nothing wrong with last night's play but one good session does not make a success of day/night tests.

Re the crowds, I wonder when all the hype dies down if they will still attract big crowds. As someone pointed out somewhere (sorry, can't remember who or on which thread). What people are losing interest in is the five day game and just making it a day/night test will not solve that problem in the long run, it's just papering over the cracks.

They did have a grade player subbing initially. The masseur came on later.
Incidentally, that's "masseuse" if you listen to the Channel 9 commentators.

Do those critical not understand that a work day is 9am-5pm?

The novelty wears off... wtf?!

Yep, when the work day stops being 9am-5pm then yeah the appeal will diminish. Sheesh.

When it's a crap test the appeal will diminish. Just because you are not working doesn't mean you will automatically attend a sporting event.
