You've made the statement.

Don't back away from it by saying "whether that is the case or not yada yada..."

Give an example of my "loaded phrasing".

No need to get defensive.

You express your views in a robust fashion, and that's going to be taken the wrong way by a lot of posters here.

Like this example here about your use of the term 'dropped'. It's a strong term to use, and while I certainly think you were spot on it in using it, I can see how others would not.

Having said that, it doesn't mean I think they are right.

"Loaded phrasing" is akin to spin.

If you want to lob that grenade, you should be able to back it up.

I don't think so. My understanding of loaded phrasing is wording things in a very persuasive fashion, to almost force people to agree with you.

I could say a lot of things about you Gunnar, but calling you a spin merchant is not one of them.

I would argue there are also overtones of dishonesty/manipulation.

Manipulation yes. Dishonesty no.

You like people to agree with you. You like to take down people who don't. Every thread I see you on you're arguing with someone, but you love it. Your threads are always well considered, so therefore I don't think you're trying to have a lend of anyone, but you do like to go toe to toe with people, and I think you word a lot of your comments in such a way that people want to go toe to toe with you. Shit, you've got me in on several occasions :D So in this there is a form of manipulation, but I don't think its deceptive or dishonest in any way. Are you trying to tell me you don't intentionally try to engage people in (sometimes heated) debate?

Now I don't have any problem with any of this. In fact, it gets the board moving and generates a lot of interesting discussion. It weeds out the imposters who like to type before they think too.

The only problem i've ever had with you is you're never wrong lol.

And I will say again, I am certainly not implying that I think you are dishonest in any way shape or form.

I'd love to see Tait in the side, unfortunately he doesn't even want to play 4 day cricket let alone a Test match.

I think he needs some time to rebuild his body. Kid has been playing representative state cricket since what...18, 19?

Really, if he gets back in form this season we should look at giving him new ball duties in the Test side in the next couple of years. I suspect he needs to mature a bit, the hype around him for a quiet country kid would have been stifling.

Yeah I don't mind Katich as a spinner, don’t think you could use him as a front liner though, his value is in shock value as a part timer I think. If you bowled him a lot blokes would figure him out, and turning the ball into the right hander as a wrist spinner can be tough. Plus you couldn’t expect him to open the batting after bowling 30 overs on a turning pitch.

Possibly, but I think Katich has better control than Krejza and is more threatening than, say, Hauritz.

As a former South Aussie, I'm partial to the Cullens, but I think Dan Cullen has unfortunately gone the way of Hauritz and is now overly defensive.

I don't know what's happened to Bailey - he was looking like a ripper but has disappeared off the face of the earth.

I’m not a huge fan of Ponting’s captaincy either, I think he tends to be a bit reactive, and tactically he’s not up to scratch IMO, Hussey would probably be a better bet, won’t happen though.

Agreed. In reality, it was Gilchrist who led us to the first series win in India, Ponting's captaincy has produced little of note except some embarrassing performances.

Without the wise counsel of Lehmann, Warne and Gilchrist - all of whom Ponting leant on extensively - he has been exposed as tactically limited and, as you said, reactive.

so am I correct that the official XI is as follows?

1. Katich
2. Hayden
3. Ponting
4. Hussey
5. Clarke
6. Symonds
7. Haddin
8. Lee
9. Johnson
10. Hauritz
11. Siddle

Disapointed with no Hilfenhaus if it is
Yeah that is the official XI unless Symonds' injury suddenly flares up again.

The MCG pitch has been great for seamers lately but I haven't seen much swing there so I reckon Siddle was a good choice, plus it will be good to have a Victorian on Boxing Day.

The selection of Siddle (again) is a disgrace. And who the hell cares if he's a Victorian - other than for pathetically parochial Victorians?

He should never have been in for the previous Test in the first place, and how on Earth he can be picked ahead of Hilfenhaus and Watson in this XI (let alone Bollinger, Magoffin and countless others) defies belief.

Maybe he just put in a rare shocker, and maybe he'll improve. But that shouldn't be the basis on which the Test team is chosen for a match against good opposition .. just a hunch that some guy might ultimately be ok. And that it's perfectly alright to ignore an absolutely atrocious performance.

I know it's Christmas and I should be charitable to everyone today. But seriously, he made pie-chucking look like an artform in the last game. And seemingly couldn't throw the ball in more than about 40 metres from the outfield to boot - and, even then, only with about a 10 metre run-up.

Hilfenhaus and Watson should be filthy about not being given a chance in this Test .. and Krejza (as the only scapegoat from a team that had about 8 passengers) probably should be too.

Very poor stuff from the selectors.

Wow with statements like this lets hope joe the camera guy isn't around tomorrow .... or Warney
.

How are we going to bowl 20 wickets with Siddle, Lee, Hauritz and Johnson? barring a miracle of course.

I hope the abovementioned bowlers do it but surely we can pick a better side than this:thumbsdown:
