We seriously need to work on our entries inside 50.

We were way too unselfish at times today too(if that can be a bad thing)

This game just confirmed it, we are good enough. None of this next two years stuff. Our time is now. So much to work with from today, we can match it physically with any team, our zone holds up against the best and with slightly cleaner ball movement/finishing we take the W.

Not negative. It's the harsh truth.
Hawthorn were missing two of their best three players. With all due respect only Wood is even close to their league. It was on our home turf and we had fantastic form. We won't have a better chance at beating the Hawks.

Instead we had Jake slipping and dropping everything, and when he finally got it he'd **** up certain goals. It's just not good enough. And I'm his biggest fan. Allowing so many contested marks isn't good enough, stuffing up easy chances isn't good enough and getting a pat on the head like a good little boy from Hawks supporters isn't good enough.
This should hurt us, it's what separates the great teams from the good. I hope Beveridge tears strips off them.

If we don't learn from this, we'll never take the next step. Having said that, it does appear we have learnt from the Adelaide final last year and I expect we'll learn from today as well....

Too ****ing shattered to say much more....

Bingo...

Thats why we didnt nail the game when it was there for the taking

A good come back after a poor start and the positive for me was the way the guys held their nerve and worked their way to the front.

Really disappointed in (i think it was) the last two goals the hawks got. Both times there was a pack with about four of our players there but still they got it out and then down the ground. Have to be able to kill the contest with that many numbers around the ball and holding a lead.

Dahl has great courage and was great today and Murph , wells its so unfair. Have to agree on McLean, he was my poster boy for big improver of the year but the ducking - i do not like.

I know every one is about team defence and i might not understand it fully but i have thought for a while we cant win the big one on the MCG without a really tall defender to kill those high balls. The trouble is the cupboard is bare but teams will be resting a ruckman down in the pocket against us all the time now. Hawks ruckmen kicked what - 3 goals for the day? - but in a close one it is huge. Those "easy" goals are gold and something we never get. The only other tall defender we have is Roberts at about 196 cm but i don't think he is the although i know others on here have a higher opinon of him than me.

Another big positive was Daniel - the pressure didnt bother him at all.

Also what is it with that Hawthorn tactic of standing some one next to the man on the mark? Can you shepherd the man on the mark now or does he only do it after play on is called?

We did not throw everything at them. We beat them in all of the key stats but choked. We are a better side than them in every way apart from composure. The Hawks are very gettable and that game wasn't us throwing everything we had at them. Everything we have doesn't involve missing goals a monkey could kick and letting them get a 5 goal headstart.
I'm not convinced Stringer and Bont are 100% ATM, let's see how we go with them back to full fitness.

Sitting a couple of seats down from Clay, his head in his hands as Bob was helped off. You'd think if anyone in the stands knows, it'd be him. Absolutely devastated to think we could have seen the last of him.

Go back and watch the contested marks the Hawks took in the forward line especially McEvoys

He tried to mark the ball over the top of him 3 times and could have punched on every occasion.

But I guess we just look at the fluffy stuff and not the important things that you learn when your 12 PUNCH FROM BEHIND
His good far outweighed his bad. Move on

This. Some seriously bad decision making on a couple of occasions killed us. None of the 'honourable loss' bullshit

Not sure there is a person on here enjoying an honourable loss. Think you'll find the entire board is proud, sad and pissed in equal measure :(

Losing this one feels equivalent to the bloody ring-burner you have to pass the morning after eating chipotle....

I get the perspective that T.Boyd may be getting a free ride. But I'm not sure if it's because of his contract.

Our only other alternative is Redpath. I don't mind Jack, but we aren't a better team with him in it and Boyd out. Their marking ability is probably similar, as is their goal kicking. Boyd does better in the ruck, which means he's versatile, which is pretty important to Bevo's game plan.

I guess if Redpath starts killing it in the vfl for a couple of weeks, then maybe it could be considered. But if it's mostly a tossup between the two, of course we're going to go with the guy that has way more potential, which means he needs as much experience as possible, and yes, is getting paid a lot. Just don't think he's getting gifted games to save face.

These patronising Hawks fans are honestly insufferable. "You guys remind us of the '08 Hawks a bit." So you're saying we are still 8 years behind you? Just **** off thanks. We don't like you and don't need to see your shitty colours on our board right now.
Hawthorn supporters are generally shitstains who jumped on the bandwagon in the 80s, and what has developed are a bunch of self entitled flogs who think they can be patronising to supporters of other clubs.

This is spot on and I'm glad Bevo mentioned it in his press conference

But now we have to win it for Bob. So the players will wear Bob armbands every game, break from every huddle saying "for Bob" and then they'll make a movie about when we win the grand final.
Are you in that hurt place when your mind starts making documentaries? I've been there. Chin up mate, this could well be the injustice that breaks the camels back, and the bulldogs of tomorrow do not understand the meaning of mercy.

Boyd was great today.
To an extent. The miss shots really **** me off.

I'm more shattered at the could of been goal in the 3rd qtr with suckling and somebody else in the square and hit the post

So many lost opportunities which would of got us over the line

However they done well overall, and shows how dangerous we really can be. Could of beaten the Hawks imo

I agree with MD, and go easy on string, was getting sky balls all night.
Stringer is a ******* champion
I agree he's a star but he got high balls all day because he refused to come at the ball carrier.... They got in his head early and worked him over all game and he was taken to the cleaners, no if buts it maybes!!

That last bit of play were Sicily kicks the goal and murph gets injured sums up our clubs history.:mad::(
These are the kind of posts that shit me up the wall. Poor us, why does this always happen to us etc.

Bad luck happens to every club. We need to deal with it to become better, not wallow in self pity.

The set shot was disappointing but he impacted every contest he was involved in. You probably don't get the full appreciation watching on TV, live you could see his influence.

Rubbish mate

Open your eyes

Head leads with his head, throws his arm up and his head back

It's cheating and I can't stand it
Maybe you you should look a Lille closer MD, he doesn't lift his shoulders he drops his knees and he doesn't throw the head back it gets ripped off.... I think he does it well
