Autopsy Autopsy vs St Kilda - Round 11, 2021

Best game from Larkey in a long time - he actually looked dangerous at times. CZ battled hard. TT good again - worked harder defensively as well.

LDU - ok stats - but zero impact on the game. Jy average. Very concerning that these guys can't string good performances together at this stage of their career.

Good time to have a bye and reset - pick up a couple of talls in the MSD and that will give us a better balanced list.

We will get a few back post bye as well which will help.

Theres more, so St Kilda and Carlton stupidly went after two half backs they simply didn’t need. I think they’re f’ed. The icing on the cake was not two half backs. Im not upset about it to be honest because in 2/3 years it’ll be us and the swans fighting it out again with these fu**in spuds making up the numbers

Isn’t Billings still unsigned and a restricted free agent at season’s end? Surely we could offer him a deal they can’t match after they blew their money on several free agents in the last few years.

Ball watching and getting sucked into the contest unnecessarily every damn week.

and everyone going for the mark inside 50?

Like you ever heard of leads? Creating space? Crumbing? Only have one going for the mark? Communication?

The forward line has been woeful this year. It’s more dysfunctional than my previous relationship

I know I am in the minority but after a slow start they battled it out. Was looking like a 12 goal loss. The team is improving every week. I am firm believer in the fact that these types of losses will make us better going forward.
Trust the process
Nah, score board was flattering and we easily could have been done by 20 goals. Im grateful because it doesn’t hurt the confidence as much and the last Q was a legitimate positive.

Easy to be bitter n’twisted but this team ain’t going anywhere in next few years if Dumont, Garner and Atley are still getting games. The definition of list cloggers ....
Thats ridiculous. You cant just keep loading up with 18 yo. Dumont has bern pretty good for a few years, garner has bern good last 3 weeks and structurally critical. I have wanted atley to work so badly. Hes cooked. No point any more. .

Scotts used Ziebell and Cunnington as forward options in games. Sometimes bagging 4-6 goals.

Why is Nobel so adamant on leaving Ziebell at HB.
It worked for Brisbane because hodge was actually good

Parts of Ziebell's game in the backline I really like. He has a big, penetrating kick for kicking out and providing rebound. Actually hits targets too.

But what drives me ****ing mad is his inability to know "when to go". Even when he's completely out of position and another defender is set up to mark, he will fly on in anyway. He doesn't seem to know what the hell a spoil is either.

Pretty poor performance all up. The last quarter flattered us

1. Josh Mahoney: Poor game. Needs to play VFl to get his confidence up. Not a lost cause as it would be hard to play half forward in this forward set up

5. Curtis Taylor: some shocking decisions to kick into the middle to a contest. Also dropped a few he should have taking. Loved his over the head handball on the first quarter. Another who would benefit from VFL time but no one is there to replace really

6. Garner. Work hard without reward. Hope his body holds up because he is a serious player

7. Zieball. He is not a defender. Ideally he would be the 6th man in the back 6. Tarrant, Bonar Core would free him up a bit more. Kicked 2 nice goals

8. B.Scott. Blanketed Hill. Happy for him to play a run with role for a year or 2. Learning those running patterns of good outside players is good for his development

9. LDU Average game, our mids got belted for the first half but he needs to learn how to impose himself in the contest when the chips are down

10. Cunners. Dunstan was all over him like a cheap suit. Toiled hard. Some great fend offs and an elite handball to Zeebs with his left hand mind you

12 Simpkin. His clanger in the first quarter and ball watching after was very poor. Was ok

14. Dumont Didn't notice too much from him

17. Young. Some serious question marks on his decision making defensively (zoning off etc) also prone to a brain fade or 2 with ball in hand. Has courage and dash but not sure that makes up for it. Fringe player at best

18 Atley Some rookie moments from a veteran. Only good when running straight and someone leading straight at him

19 Walker. Taz in for him next game please

20 Larkey. One of his better games. Needs a partner in crime inside 50. Will do some damage when the ball gets in quicker to him

22 Goldy. Average game. Ryder beat him in the ruck and was ineffectual around the ground

23 McKay. Brilliant again. An amazing competitor who is very rarely beaten. Gonna be a star

24 Powell. Very quick hands and found it 18 times but some uncharacteristic poor handballs in the contest.

26. Thomas. Decent game. I think his role is a half forward who can swing through the midfield then go deep forward. Doesn't win enough of it to be a permanent mid IMO

28. Turner. Absolute pest to his opponent. Definitely a role for him shuting down dangerous small forwards.

31. Menadue. Meh

42. Campbell. Has a go but a square peg in a CHF shaped hole

43. Hall. Was alright again but some poor moments dropping 2 absolute sitters

44. Zuhaar. Was really good. Seems to have turned the corner mentally. Works himself into the game
Bring on 2022. If our minds are dominating the clearances we look so weak defensive. With a fully fit back 6 that should change a bit

I worry about the game plan of playing the corridor when there is no one demanding the ball across half forward (except Zurhaar). Teams are invited that inside kick and gambling to intercept, it's very predictable.

I'd like to see a fully fit squad playing before judging but I've got some question marks on the game plan. I think the problem is personnel mainly

Anyway go Roos

Terrible for a lot of reasons.

There are positives:
- larkey and zurhaars intent. They are busting their guts and when they get decent service they are hard to beat.
- mckay - unbeatable. Sucks about the injury. Give him all the time in the world to get back 100%. Should have time to sign the contract now
- bailey Scott's job on hill
- turner as a defender
- ziebell getting forward
- watching cunnington play - that handpass and the fend off's...

some players need to be persisted with:
-There is something there with mahoney.
- Young needs to be given a set position - not doing him any favours playing him in a different position every week.

- menadue was poor today - i think he's been consistent in recent weeks.
- taylor worries me. Someone check the gym logs because i doubt he's been in there while he's been at the club. No quads - sure he had a knee injury but why does he had the arms of Olive Oyl.

Time to bring in X for Campbell i think.
Taylor has no effort off the footy. Thats unacceptable for his role. Watch him when ball in area - embarassing.

It is, but what's the point with this silly game plan? Sooner or later people are going to have to confront this!

Imagine how much more productive Cam & Larkey would be if we put X at CHF and played more direct?

The smaller blokes would also benefit.
We're reticent to play a tall who is critical to our future (and present structure) despite understanding the development of TT comes at a defensive cost at times. Be consistent Nobes and pull the pin for the greater good.

Goldy had his pants pulled down, which is pretty rare but it exposed our midfield, especially with Cunners somewhat negated. I’m not going to rag too much on our midfield because it’s pretty young but there’s a lot to work on. The young talent in the midfield is the most promising we’ve had for a very long time but they all have things to work on. Simpkin needs more composure, LDU needs to be more accountable defensively and Thomas needs to stay involved in the game for longer periods. Powell’s just a kid finding his way. The upside is massive imo because they’re all so talented but they won’t ever get there without fixing those things.

Josh Mahony? I hope he can play better than Jack Mahony

Was kinda like trying to have a fire using green wood. Just kinda smouldering away without the need for much attention, then every now and then some dry wood would catch alight and flare up, cause a ruffle of excitement, then burn down again. Also got my vacuuming done, which also sucked 🙃

At the moment I just want to see us win some games.

For future opportunities though I’d assume Billings and Kelly are potentially available via Free Agency. Harry McKay via PSD.

Unlikely but would be a great off season.

I have no idea why people are still hanging onto the Kelly logic. He burned us, twice. **** him. The dog

Pretty accurate summary unfortunately. When he left his man to fly with hall and it spilled over the back was one of this wtf moments.
