Still meeting with a few more clubs though. So he hasn't signed yet. But we've left a great 3 day impression, don't know if North/Carl/Frem do much in a standard 2 hour meeting that we haven't accomplished in three days.

There's more to it of course (harley needs to cross a few t's and dot a few i's along the way), but the club is willing to pay him - don't understand why anyone on this board believed that the club rated him a B player AND told him that to his face. Ridiculous.

In my opinion, he rates behind only Rance, Riewoldt, Deledio and on par with Cotchin and Martin. This kid is a freaking jet and everyone in the club absolutely knows it.

well the $500 should allay some fears of us lowballing him, that would be for the first year alone as theres 1 year left on his contract with GC

So will be interesting to see what he gets in 2017 if we get him

Not sure, but I'm sure Astbury still has a year of his contract to honour. We're in no rush to send him off, may be our way of raising his trade value? Sometimes clubs play these games.

He destroyed us in the Indigenous All-Stars preseason game. But has never blitzed us in a H&A game

well he'd basically have to replace Chappy and do it successfully to up his value. Value don't go up in the magoos (VFL)

I'd say Astbury being 'required' is because Chaplin as fast approaching retirement age, and Astbury is the obvious replacement. Until then, he's injury cover for Chaplin & Rance, and would be considered as a replacement if Grimes & Batchelor went down (depending on matchups).

That's a pretty big role for someone not in the 22.

Exactly...Lots of things could still happen. Lyon seemed confident from various comments that he was going to end up in WA, so that's probably still a factor, especially if WCE lose the GF and it's put down to a lack of midfield class.

For now, it seems like it's 60% Richmond, 30% Freo, 10% 'the rest', but WCE (and to a lesser degree Hawthorn) haven't entered the field yet.

Between GC & GWS, I'd say there has been at least one 'young A grader' shifting clubs every year for a while now.

Griffiths can play back, McBean takes Griffs spot in forward line.
Worse case scenario, Dea comes in against those shorter forward lines. Or we can give Cameron Giles a try as a DFA.

We've got no choice really
He either gets traded out otherwise we continue to pay him $ 300k for another year and hope he steps up to another level
Me personally have seen enough of him to say he won't and therefore I would love to trade him out
