Had a mate who worked at CQ who reckons he saw Matty there every weekend without fail while listed with Blues (apart from when he played interstate so not too much).
Just trying to channel our stars of the '70s & '80s whose form off field was right up there with their on field efforts. Unfortunately for Watson he was 30 years too late.

Why?

Can't say I've even heard him speak before.
I don't think he's worth the money he will command, don't think we need his specific position filled, and I reckon he's soft.

Never seen him get aggressive with a guy his own size. The kinda guy who will have a dig at a guy like lamb or Dylan Buckley, but go completely to water when confronted by someone of similar size like Rowe.

Not sure if this has been posted, but i heard that McKay was dropped due to backing out of 2 contests last week. Apparently the leadership group led by cripps gave him a scolding and then proceeded to drop him.

This is a very 2nd hand rumour and should be taken as a grain of salt, make of it what you will.

Not sure about backing out. But I did notice at least a couple of times he didn’t really 100 percent contest in a marking situation. He will learn.

Wouldn't surprise me, he was out marked far too often which is a criminal offence for a forward, just can't happen, especially from a big guy. I would have dropped him too. These young guys need tough love and nothing gifted if they are to develop into hard edged AFL footballers.

Curnow is an obvious selection. Silvagni was pretty good. Kerr is growing as a player and showed good signs. Casboult will be back next match.

If true, i like it. We should be pushing all the boys to strive for excellence and a constant “dialled in” mentality

I think we are. Weitering, Kennedy, Cuningham, Garlett, Silvagni have been sent back to work on things at times and it's pushed them to better their weaknesses and some have come back better.

I think a lack of skill or ability isn't why we drop players but a lack of effort and fitness is. Guys who put in a few games where they don't chase, go hard at the contests and don't make an effort to bring the ball to ground will go back to the reserves.

Weitering was lazy, unphysical and pretty soft, he's come back better. Garlett has not applied pressure, tackled or worked hard enough and has been dropped until he rectifies these problems.

SPS, Dow and last night O'Brien have put in games where they weren't hard enough at the ball and didn't apply good enough pressure but have improved in game and not followed up poorly the next week and have escaped VFL time.

McKay's efforts V Geelong weren't great. Jogging after the opposition ball carriers and getting out marked equals VFL time.

This is what you don't get at perennially strong clubs with strong leadership like Hawthorn, Sydney, Geelong over the years and what we must instill in our players.

This did not happen in the Brett Ratten era and we ended up with a reasonably talented list of soft, lazy one way running player who refused to play with discipline, didn't apply pressure well, only ran one way and weren't hard at the ball at all. Malthouse saw that talent and came over and when he arrived he saw this which is why he wanted to get rid of half the team and why half the team couldn't hack it when he demanded a higher level of tougher, more discipline more team football, the kind required to go far.

I think we are making efforts so that when this young talented list matures, it won't have the same problems. There is no gifting games under Bolton. I can see that the players can be quiet but if the effort is there and the right intent is there then that's fine.

This is why I would not be against recruiting an older player at the end of his career to come in as an on field/on track leader. These young guys need to have these qualities drilled into them.

You get a lot of high draft picks, you end up with a lot of talented players, effort is not always or often a quality which comes with these players, it needs to be taught and teaching it is an effort in itself. To become great we need a lot of high draft picks and we need to develop these players well and being tough on effort is how it is done and it must be done while they are young and impressionable.

Fair rewrite or interpretation of history.

Maltouse saw ... While the cattle under Ratten probably overachieved and perhaps lacked hardness, two way running and sufficient effort, what Malthouse saw was one thing, what Malthouse did was another: he quite simply made our list a lot worse, and this includes losing the playing group, driving players away and his affect on our recruiting.

I don’t agree with SPS reviews. I thought he was one that just kept going and his run and delivery was good.
I was disappointed in Lang’s commitment last night. Thought his 2nd and 3rd efforts were poor and for a more senior player, not good enough. Btw - O’Shea and Kerridge should never be allowed to deliver the ball........

O’Shea - absolutely agree.

Kerridge - he was very un-Kerridge like with most of his disposal last night. His missed shot on goal was hallmark Kedge but otherwise, I was happy with him, including disposal.

He's actually normally quite a good kick for goal
True - better than field kicking anyway.

I still remember watching him kick 6 for Adelaide one day. That does not make sense to me in all honesty.... hasn’t looked like doing that again, even remotely.

Rumors about Guthrie starting to make news rounds. No mention of other clubs but that he, his brother and the club are way apart in negotiations.

Could be a 2 for 1 deal.
Yeah heard the campaigners BT and JB talking about it before the dogs vs dees game, scumbag Barrett was confirming it. They also mention Dom Sheed is apparently not happy playing magoos either.

Harry may find it hard to get back in after the bye, with Levi returning, Silvagni playing quite well, and Kerr (who I think will make way for Levi) showing some okay signs. That along with the lack of opportunity VFL seems to provide our forwards.

My bad you are correct. Worth enquiring about though
Would take Sheed in a heartbeat, but I don't think he will ever be leaving WC. Tyson, on the other hand, I'm not entirely sold on. Would easily be in our best 22 for now, but not sure he improves us going forward. Must admit I haven't seen a whole lot of him, but he had never really impressed me with what I have seen.
