Rubbish IMO. Old school footy was much more intuition and could not be taught. Modern day football is all about patterns and structures and definitely can be taught, in fact I would say must be taught.
Can agree then that there are three categories of footballer
Plays on instinct;
Plays to instructions;
Spud.

Do we really need another defender though.
I think Rowe, ASOS and JGM are unlikely to be on our list next year, and Simpson plays maybe next year and then pulls up stumps.
Byrne is a tough call, might be trade bait.
O’Shea is for broken glass (continuing emergency).

So our defenders are ... Docherty, Weitering, Marchbank, Plowman, Macreadie, Williamson ... Schumacher ...

Ben SOS named full back for Vic Metro ...

I reckon Rowe is an absolute Monty to be on the list next year

Someone posted a while back that there was more to Marchbank not playing and hinted at off field stuff.

Was around the time of the Adelaide game when he and Charlie were late outs, that there was a hint of off-field discretion.

Not dimissing anything, but although it was only AFLX, the fact they made him Captain suggests he is thought of quite highly at the club.

Ollie aboard the Wines train, it seems.

Plenty will need to go out to get Wines and that much 'plenty' may be hard to let go of.
Only thing that may get Ports juices flowing is the #1 pick should we hold it. We may not have #1 and if we did may be reluctant to let go.

Forget about bringing next years first into the equation, as Port are now about the now....and please.....Let's not raise the PSD.

#1 for Wines and maybe their first this year, along with one of our seconds going to Port.
OUT: #1 and ~#30
IN: Wines and ~#15

Would we do it?

I say no considering we can pick up Shiel the following year for free. For me Lukosius looks Delisius. This is not the year to trade your no 1 draft pick.

lol Carlton were certainties to pick up Kelly and another gun mid from GWS last year- this year it is "messiah wines" and messiah GAF".

sorry fellas - Carlton will have to do its time developing its own for a few more year.

The club and its nuff nuff Board destroyed itself chasing Malthouse - now pay the cost of the crime - redemption doesn't come cheap or easy.

That's not the song the club is singing. It made its intentions very clear.
Trick is of course to get the players SOS and co want, but the path chosen has been conveyed to us. It's no mystery and makes for perfect sense.

Of course we'll be developing SPS, Dow, O'Brien and co, but we won't ignore the.....journey.

Looks reasonable on paper...to a point.

The list manager who trades away pick one would carry his aggots around in a wheelbarrow or he's Captain Risky. Is SOS that brave or foolish?

I can't see it but Wines game last night would certainly make it tempting.

We should absolutely do that

Nice hypothetical ….. The above scenario would ONLY come into play if he NOMINATED us …. and that my friend Harks … just will not happen.

Maybe, but some things will happen that were....just not going to happen.

Keep hearing "Why would anyone come to us?"
It has its merit but is also dismissing many other factors in players that wish to go home to their state of origin. (Shit term, right? :))

Hawthorn and Geelong can't get everyone. They just can't. Not everyone wants to live in Geelong either.
Melbourne is stacked with mids already and Richmond may well shell out plenty for the one big hit.

Things change and it's just as much as the sell we give to prospective players as it is to where a team is today.
