Hi everyone. It’s breathe deeply time

My perspective for what it is worth

Yes. We have slightly overpaid for McGovern (it’s both seconds plus Mcadam for McGovern and a future third). But, put it in context

1) he’s contracted
2) they owe us a black eye. Don’t believe the good relationship stuff. They hate us
3) Adding Walsh and Setterfield, we DO NOT NEED ANY MORE KIDS
4) we are adding 4 starting 22 players (including Fasolo)
5) we will still be able to get Setterfield - future second plus a swap of picks will get it done

SOS knows what he is doing. He rates Walsh enormously (he has knocked back more than just WCE offers for pick one - Geelong came hard). He will keep both the $ and the 2019 first round pick for another assault on a senior player next year

It’s all good. We should walk out of this period with McGovern, Setterfield, Fasolo, Walsh and next year’s first intact

Encouraging to hear the bits in bold. And I agree with point 3. With Walsh on board, time to start looking beyond the draft.

Would Essendon have had the money for Shiel if they’d not been given concessions by the AFL for the drug scandal and taken advantage by paying some of their stronger players front ended contracts. No way can they afford Smith, Stringer, Saad and now Shiel in a two year period. They’d have to be at the edge of the cap and someone will fall out the end.

I really don’t know how he could do that to his parents . Sadly , I’m serious. :(:drunk:

His price had risen so much, he would have felt guilty going to the club he grew up supporting, knowing we were paying overs for his services. It shows he has scruples at least.

But *?
**** 'em, happy to take their money. :D

Your joking?
No way, no how.

I'm not joking. They are bastards. They've lead us on and back flipped in the past for one of their highly rated kids. Look what happened with Marchbank. They lead us to believe they would accept a 2nd rounder then ended up demanding a first round pick and SOS had to scramble and push Tuohy out for unders and get Geelong to ask AFL permission to trade a future 1st to get it done.

Thanks for the update, EP. Do you know if there are any other mature mids in play ala Tyson, Dustan ect?

Point 3 is the key one. It’s exciting to bring in new kids but we need to focus on the ones we’ve got. A quiet draft is not the end of the world if we walk away with Walsh.

I’m excited...
McGovern’s last quarters against Collingwood (2017) when they drew and in the showdown (2018) when they lost to the Motlop goal proves to me he is a BIG time player who will thrive on the big crowd and big stage.

We got Charlie for 2x 2nd rounders technically... and that was WELL unders if we ask the same question??

How confident are you on the Setterfield deal?

I do recall them back flipping on us with Marchy a couple of years ago...

Bit left field but as SOS was prepared to deal next years 1st round does he use it on Setterfield and get Pick 14 back this year?

Pick One & 14 would be the last of our young guns and the rest of this season and then into next year is targeting gun FA's/Trades etc. We would add some mature "role" players cheap as the young players develop.

WCE offer?

What’s your thoughts on going into 2019 light on picks?

I understand it probably has to happen to get Setterfield but not ideal in terms of trades next year.

Chin up guys still more to play could be a couple of surprises.
Thanks B70. A lot of people could do with abit more positi
I'm sure sos knows what gws want for setterfield! He won't go all out for McGovern! And then have nothing for setterfield! He's not silly!! I would love another few picks in the draft though!! Not just pick 1 ! Gold Coast are a dumping ground ! Package up casboult and Andrew merrington for a top 30 pick
jesus I laughed hard at that :D
