I trust SOS to get Setterfield done with what has been mentioned, but I gotta funny feelin in me bones the Giants are gunna ask for our 2019 first, we have left ourselves exposed for this possibility now after playing overs for McGov, if indeed said trade goes down that way.
After today I'm not assuming anything anymore till it's been lodged and official

He nominated us and was out of contract.

Let's hope someone doesn't do that with Setterfield then hey...

After today, anything is possible!!

Setterfield >>>>>>>>>>> Shiel.

Mark it down. We have got the better player and cheaper :thumbsu: and we can now get Kelly in 2019

Plus we have made the Bumbers pay 2 first round draft picks and a lot of money.

Lots of positives

Soap, i just dont see how you could be so positive about setterfield being better than shiel? The guy has barely played.

Nah. The onus is on me to prove... precisely nothing. It’s your choice if you continue to feel a certain way about the words I’ve chosen to write.

I mean, I could recommend you re-read my words, in the context of all my previous posts, to understand the “tone” or “intent” of my posting style. You know, so you don’t just jump to conclusions about the person you’re dealing with?

But then, that would require me to care for some unknown reason about a stranger’s perspective on the internet. Or (even more strangely than that) to tell said stranger how I think they should behave or act.

Assuming you won’t catch what I’m throwing though. So I’ll leave it there, regardless of your return serve.
So you're basically saying it was tongue in cheek? Fair enough. If that's your style then so be it.

As I read the way this thread is descending into recrimination and irrationality I’m put in mind of two opposing but equally justifiable thoughts

1) if people want to go off tap, that’s their right, but
2) the rest of us don’t need to participate or be exposed to it

So, until next trade season, Sayonara
EP No late suprises for us ? No star to help out cripps ?

I don't think anyone is attacking you personally EP. They are taking the news as gospel and are unhappy with the club and / or the deal mooted.

The bat ball home approach may not be warranted

Please comeback for the post draft breakdown at least

Looking at the McGovern trade, it's quite clear to me that SOS's plan was Shiel, McGovern, Setterfield and that there was no plan B.

Why do I say that?

The simple AFL rule that states you have to have either a first or a second round draft pick in each AFL draft. You cannot not have neither of them.

We started out with:

  • 2018: #1, #24, #25, state leaguers
  • 2019: 1st + 2nd round selections
So how was he going to pay for all of the three?
  • 2019 1st for Shiel -- eliminates the 2019 second from being able to be used in a trade
  • 2018 24 + McAdam + pick upgrades for Adelaide for McGovern
  • 2018 25 for Will Setterfield
It's pretty clear that SOS got the news he wasn't expecting -- Shiel to Essendon -- and has panicked. He now had to trade in McGovern at all costs so he paid over the odds for him. SOS would now hope that our 2019 second is enough to secure Setterfield. He'll probably throw in 42 as well.

If not for Russell this would be a disaster. We have no real currency this year or next. If he trades out Liam Jones and Levi Casboult it's not going to bring in enough to be anything more than moving deck chairs.

Happy to be shown where I'm wrong. Please do!

By the way, I am not thrilled with the deal either.

I reckon we may have burnt the concessions we got to be honest. We've turned them into very little

Nothing to do with that. It’s just getting silly and unpleasant. Nobody is obligated to spend time on big footy. I’m just saying bye

It's the SOS bait and switch.

They will need to add another player (or other pick) if they want next years first. There are a many many options available.

Same way people think Walsh will be a star. IMO Setterfield was the best player in his draft year. Get him fit and watch out. Also only 20 so we have him for a decade and is cheap. Always wanted him more than Shiel

Has SOS gone silly, or something? First not speaking to every club before trading our first concession for pick 42, then this.
You think the first time the clubs spoke was yesterday?

SOS said in his 2 radio interviews yesterday, plus the one he did for the website, that the clubs have been talking all year.

List managers would probably be floating ideas with each other all year, not just from yesterday

Exactly right, if people think he traded that pick after only consulting 4 clubs then you are a moron.

I have a feeling if Byrne doesn't return the Blues will snatch Brandon Ellis. Ellis is still in limbo.
I wouldn't mind him.
Sorry to disrail the Shiel to Blues thread ;)
No. Please no. HUGELY overrated and he isn't rated that high. He played well above himself in the GF year because the whole club were running on hype. Now his bubble has been burst and this year's form was a reflection. Really do not want.
