Too many variables to clearly judge if that's a good deal or not.

The first is which pick is coming in? If it's 5, that's one thing - if it's 10, that's another.

Then there's the identity of said mature player, and just what - realistically - that top 10 pick next year might be. I'm of the thinking it'd be 1-3 - not something I'd give up unless that 'mature player' is (say) a starting midfielder in our best 18 - and who of that ilk is still a possible (and available) trade target at this stage?

That's my thinking - the mature player would have to be a good mid

Still hate May’s guts for that but yeah I agree he’d be a great addition. Could send Jones to them as part of any deal. I think our priorities will be elsewhere and should be elsewhere right now, but for the right price he’d be pretty awesome for us.

The two picks we traded got Adelaide pick 13 plus Mcadam. Equates to roughly pick 10.

If you’re gonna use the points system, then what Carlton traded out net was about pick 16 and McAdam, what Adelaide got in net was about pick 38 and McAdam. The difference between pick 38 and pick 13 was made up by what the Crows themselves threw into the kitty, so don’t use pick 13 to value what Carlton paid.

CYHTD, don’t think it’s that straight forward. Up to this year, Shiel has played in a better team which always seem to get more AA players than poorer teams.

also, shiel has not got the attention that goes with a number 2 / 3 mid, that treloar has had.

be interesting to see how shiel goes at essendon where he’ll be a number 2 mid most likely. he could raise his game to another level, or struggle with the extra responsibility.

If he was really lazy, he could have sat on the GC for the next 2 years on $400K. I can't see him getting that at Hawthorn, talent alone won't get you into the starting 22 at the Hawks. It will be interesting to see how Jack and Chad fair fighting for a spot
