Yep. One year deal, option for a second. Buys us another 12 months to shake the tree at other clubs, or get a small forward late in the draft who can be mentored by one of the best.
The best small forward this year (Cameron) was mentored by Betts....if we lock him down early, it could be a big drawcard for opposition players
Let's say Eddie plays for a year at $500K and kicks 40 goals. Then one final season at $350K and kicks 30.
That's excellent output for $$$ in both years. But then he retires and we are right back where we started.
I'm sure there are other 30yo+ players out there that would make us a better team, but is it right to recruit them (let's assume FA/token pick)??? I mean Daisy is a perfect example. Still has football left in him but we made the call to transition away.
Is Betts different because he plays in a position that we lack?
I guess my question is do you recruit old FAs if they make you better but are only ever stop gaps? Luke Hodge has worked out well at Brisbane. Jordan Lewis less so at Melbourne. Was there a point in WC recruiting Sam Mitchell? Was Daniel Cross a shining light in Melbourne's rebuild?
