Yep. One year deal, option for a second. Buys us another 12 months to shake the tree at other clubs, or get a small forward late in the draft who can be mentored by one of the best.

The best small forward this year (Cameron) was mentored by Betts....if we lock him down early, it could be a big drawcard for opposition players

Let's say Eddie plays for a year at $500K and kicks 40 goals. Then one final season at $350K and kicks 30.

That's excellent output for $$$ in both years. But then he retires and we are right back where we started.

I'm sure there are other 30yo+ players out there that would make us a better team, but is it right to recruit them (let's assume FA/token pick)??? I mean Daisy is a perfect example. Still has football left in him but we made the call to transition away.

Is Betts different because he plays in a position that we lack?

I guess my question is do you recruit old FAs if they make you better but are only ever stop gaps? Luke Hodge has worked out well at Brisbane. Jordan Lewis less so at Melbourne. Was there a point in WC recruiting Sam Mitchell? Was Daniel Cross a shining light in Melbourne's rebuild?

Be prepared to be surprised. There’s been a lot of noise on this and someone I know who gets a lot of mail says this is looking to be more likely than not.

Oh I would be stoked if it was true but I'll remain cautious until more confirmation comes through like Wines formally requesting a trade. I think he would be worth more than Gibbs and that was 2 firsts with a 2nd going back.

Wines would be an amazing pick up, people have forgotten how good he is. We need another body in there and Wines is perfect age and will provide leadership.

Pick 8 + Levi to GC for Martin & Brisbane 1st

Brisbane 1st + 2020 1st for Wines & 2020 Port 2nd

Looks a somewhat fair pair of deals.

Gold Coast lose Martin, gain Levi, and upgrade their first rounder by 6-8 spots into the top 10. If anything, it's maybe overs their way, so I'd try for a future pick swap in our favour as well (our third for their second, or another team's second if they land one in another trade).

Port lose Wines, gain a late first in an even first round draft, and upgrade their future second to our future first. Feels pretty much bang on.

Gives us three second rounders next season, which isn't a bad hand. If the draft runs deep, we can use them for some quality kids. If not, we can trade them for decent players or package some of them up for a higher pick.

I would be very surprised if a) Wines requests to leave Port, b) Port agree to put him on the trade table given his contract status and c) if he was put on the trade table, we were able to match the mighty cost Port would ask for.

24 years old. 141 games. Co captain of the club. The absolute minimum starting point would be two first rounders with one in the top 5. If Wines played for Carlton we would not accept anything less.

Wines was left out of the team when fit this year and Hinkley isn't going anywhere. You're right that we would ask the world if Wines played for Carlton but it seems that his current value to PA isn't commensurate with his age and accomplishments.

True, true. That is relevant.

Hopefully we can get a suitable deal done. I'd love him in Blue. Can't believe he's only 24, I thought he was older!
Yeah I'm with you. He was a ready made player which makes it feel like he has been around forever. Would be a great addition but I fear Port will demand a huge price or else they will refuse to trade him...kind of like what we did with Gibbs

Looking forward to the hate from the usual suspects but can confirm the following is what is on the table:

Carlton: Out Pick 8 and 2020 First Round In - Wines and PA 2nd round pick (think 2019 but may be 2020 not sure)

Port Adelaide: In pick 8 and CFC 2020 First round - Out Wines and 2nd round pick

Carlton: Out Levi In: top 30 pick from GC (dependent on trades) and I stress Levi is yet to agree to this and nor is the CFC (but the Suns offering a top 30 pick is enticing)

Trying to then trade the Levi pick and Port pick for a top 15 pick for Crouch or Martin, if we can get agreement with Crows or Suns. If not, these picks will be used for a ruck or mid depth. A complicacting factor is the Crouch boys want to move together. Not sure who would have currency for both.

GC have advised Daisy they would be interested in offering him a 1 year contract with a 1 year option. No idea on his response.

Hill's price (as in salary) makes him a non-option. If he was willing to accept under $700k we would be very interested. Don't believe the Saints are the front runners - will be hard for him not to end up at the Hawks given he loves Clarko.

Ah Chee from the Suns will listen to Melbourne clubs but likely to go to WA. Suns want a top 25 pick. If we could somehow swap Levi for Ah Chee that would be amazing (this is my opinion only - no party with credibility has suggested this)

Patrick Kerr has had interest from three clubs but not sure if as a rookie or list spot. He was a tough decision for the Club. Did not show a lot this year but a few people think he may surprise over the next 2-3 years.

All very believable and common sense stuff. Sounds really likely. Wines for two first rounders with pick 27 coming back and Levi for a top 30 pick would mean pick 17 unless something comes to them first and then to us would give us some quality trade ammunition.

Wines has a long contract ahead of him and is a big name at Port so would cost plenty I would imagine.

I think Martin is worth two second rounders or a late first. Could put us in contention for his services getting pick 17 or pick 27 and using next year's second. Ah Chee could be handy.

Wines is an interesting one. Wonder if we could get him fitter. He's a big lad and only 24. Could see him trimming down a bit and building his tank and going to the next level. He would restructure our midfield for the best and give us physicality and ball winning ability which we need. His contract is the big one, I think he's got years on it. Port don't have to trade if they don't want to and I wouldn't think they would want to.

Need more deathriding :) - Perhaps 8+swap future firsts for wines

I’m fairly confident in saying I don’t think any opposition club will want to swap future 1st rounders with us for next year. Realistically out of all clubs heading into next year we are probably the great unknown. We could end up finishing slightly higher then this year and hand over a pick 4-8 but then with a good run with injury who’s to say we don’t go on a run like Brisbane did this year. It would be a huge gamble for an opposition club to make with our potential scope for improvement next year

He played one SANFL game when he was coming back from injury. Injury interrupted season all round. Judd played a game in our VFL side a few years ago when coming back from injury. I think this angle is well and truly overblown.

I would be happy to see Eddie return from the romantic viewpoint don't get me wrong but that is the heart not the mind.

Stranger things have happened but it would be a big risk and if it backfired folks here will be after the list peoples heads. Again.

I am also quite skeptical about the Eddie reunion.

But he is one of the better players in a position where we are completely devoid of talent (healthy Cunners aside).

I would rather target a younger small forward or two. But if we can't land those, then this still makes some sense on an objective level. I think.

Has GC actually shown any interest in Casboult or are we just assuming? Surely they back in 2MP who will be a sixth year player plays ruck forward and he isn’t going to play in front of JL or King. They also have Thompson and Collins coming back into the backline. For me they seem like one of the worst fits for him.

Mostly overblown because of that clown Hinkley saying he wasn't best 22 at the time as opposed to saying "being managed through injury" or something along those lines instead.

I think people underrate how Betts would also improve our off-field culture as well.

"For the past few years, Betts has hosted a regular barbecue event during the footy season at his Adelaide house, known as “Mob Night”, cooking kangaroo steaks over an open fire pit and entertaining young indigenous players from both the Crows and Port."

Koch is an egomaniac. If he feels someone doesn’t buy into his vision they are dead to him
