Quote from FIVEE

ROWEY: “It is, most definitely it is. Nicksy still today said I’ll keep him. Brad said, yep, I’d stay… St Kilda have said straight out we ain’t giving up pick 15. So there’s nothing they’ve got that the Crows need or want. Unless they can lure another club in Brad stays. End of story”

WILL: “That’s negotiation over then. They’ve got to keep him. This was a no-lose scenario: he gets paid over and you get a really good pick for him, or he gets paid at a market or below market rate and you keep him. Those are the only two doors. You can’t create option three, which is stuff it up royally.”

Surely we can't do an option 3.

AFC: "hold my beer"

If Pick 23 is the compensation, how come we have not matched St Kilda's Offer yet? Just match the offer and force a trade/keep Brad..zzzz why is this taking so long..
Probably because they never intended to match, but now they feel obliged to to save face.

Probably because they let it be known that Crouch had played his last game.

Probably because they told Crouch hed played his last game.

Now they realise how bad they are at this game.

If that is the case....then hand Reid his marching orders today

They've always said, they'll match any offer that doesn't net pick 2. They were happy for Brad to try for the BIG contract, but also to keep him if one didn't materialise. Looks as if we'll get to keep him for less than we were originally offering. So double bonus.

OR - scary option, St Kilda had advice and knew exactly what was needed to trigger it and went just below it with the expectation that the crows won't match - get the player for no picks, ensure the crows don't get a top end pick to further push their own pick down the order and with the least risk the crows will match the offer to force them to trade.

Whether this is the case or not I am putting it on the club to match the bid if they know band 1 is off the table. We simply cannot be in the business of letting our best mid go for a mid 20's pick in a compromised draft AND let St Kilda get the free hit of getting Brad AND being able to go to the draft with a 1st round pick +
LOL Simon Lethlean ring any bells, intersting his departure from the AFL...

if its pick 23 then st kilda is officially on my shit list. if they ever need our help to get up the draft order two words for them, **** off.

maybe we are in negotiation with Gold Coast to trade the pick 23 compo pick to them for Jack Lukosius. It will make a good story to feed the faithful as to why we took the compo :drunk:

Rowey says this morning he’s spoken to Nicks yesterday and both parties are still happy with Crouch remaining at the Crows. Then you have articles like this suggesting the opposite. They’re all guessing or all getting fed different info.

Match and trade him to Gold coast or Essendon who have picks and cap space, there are ways around this. We have tunnel vision of oh no we have to keep Brad 5 year and we don't want that, guess we'll just accepted pick 23.

We are the Eeyore of the AFL, accept mediocrity till we die

This is our problem. We think it is a win-win league, when in reality it is a 'screw you' league, but with a smile.
The other clubs are laughing their head off at us in private, while publicly talking about what a respected and professional club we are. We are naive morons.

If the STK offer is a relatively low base, with games played incentives that protect STK if he breaks down;

guess what, it also protects us.

doesn’t logically make it an even easier contract to match?

(And potentially easier contract to trade next year or the year after?)
Unless the triggers are so low he will hit them pretty much unless he completely misses the whole season.

yeah it was..but no doubt he still has plenty of mates in AFL house...conspiracy theory but knowing how things have gone against our club over the years I am not ruling it out
LOL I'm very much ruling it in, isn't he also a mate of Andrew Dillon?

Isn't Dillon on the committee that decides the compo or am I mistaken?
