We can also offer a contract to Brad that might suit us a bit more and close enough to what Brad wants.

Rules:
17.5 Movement of Restricted Free Agents
...
(j) Nothing in this Rule 17.5 prevents a Restricted Free Agent’s Current Club
making an offer, or a Restricted Free Agent accepting an offer from his Current
Club, in relation to a Player’s services on different terms to the Offer within three
days of the Current Club receiving the Offer from the AFL.

but only with his agreement. We don’t get the ball back without his say so if we match

Who knows if that is even true?

"Privately acknowledged" fu** me
Have to say MR I'll go into bat for the club when I think some on here are talking shit but if there is even a skerrick of truth in the "we'll take pick 23 and walk away cap in hand" I'll be leading the pitchfork gang. I've got a mate over there that trains a fair string of trotters and I've told him to be ready to load the tip truck with his copious supply of horseshit, destination West Lakes.

What an immature post and sadly liked by 16 others.

...

Petulant dummy spitting posts make us look so bad when other supporters read our board. Luckily the people in charge of trading and drafting are mature business people, they will make a decision one way or the other and move on. We have a great draft hand, let's enhance it by doing smart trades with other willing parties.

You’re right, won’t someone think of the supporters of other boards?

Like that guy that came on last night and laughed it up about how Walsh died?

Excuse me while I give absolutely zero ****s how opposition posters feel when they read our board.

And if we **** this up, how can our list management committee survive? ****ed up the Gibbs scenario, ****ed up Greenwood and Keath exists, costly deals to Jenkins and Betts, Sloanes impending hurt, but this is very very public way of being humiliated. We played poker and lost if we don’t get a decent trade and if that happens, heads have to roll.

When you have a reputation of bluffing and folding, then sh*t like this will continue to happen to you.

We should have sent Keath to the PSD, we got screwed on that trade no matter the level of mental gymnastics trying to justify the value we received.

We said only last week that we wouldn’t accept anything bar pick 2 and would match and force a trade. Well that’s out there, fold now without matching and you might as well purchase shares in a lube company for come trade time.

Maybe instead of the Richmond them song, the Crows need to have this song on repeat.

"Prepared to stay" is code for "to make this deal go through smoothly with adequate compensation, I'm giving the leaving club leverage"

We don't know whether Brad actually wants to stay when they say that

Though with Charlie that tune changed pretty quickly once the deal got a bit tricky. Suddenly Charlies manager was saying there is absolutely no way he'd be willing to play for the Crows the next year and would sit out if required.

Jesus, you're obsessed with the Keath trade.

The guy was worth a second. We got one through an upgrade. It was unders, but nothing to lose sleep over.

This is a very different scenario.

Hope we are on the phones to the AFL asking for a please explain your bias shite.

Saints offer would be at the 700k mark easy.

Apparently ports offer was 650k 3 years.

There is actually looking tough, and then there is being stupid whilst thinking you look tough.

PSD only works as a threat or even a "looks tough" option if you can guarantee the player will not be selected by the club who wants him. Otherwise you've wasted your time and wasted an asset for no gain whatsoever.
And there were enough clubs with a pick before the Bulldogs to throw comments like he was guaranteed to get to the Bulldogs in the garbage.

Plus what would we have given up? A small pick upgrade and a shitty pick in the 40s? Big ****ing deal.

I’m obsessed with losing out and you’re obsessed with bullshitting the details of the trade.

So basically either one or both clubs misread how much is required for band 1, and now possibly both clubs have been shafted

St Kilda either won't get their man or will have to pay picks
We don't get pick 2
OR Brads Manager has played this beautifully .....would know what would trigger Band1 .....his client Bradley wanted to stay in ADEL, but wanted the best deal

He's got the best market deal ...and Manager surmises Crows won't accept #23, and Brad gets to stay home

Conspiracist theory, yes .....but a viable theory none the less

If the reports are true - that the offer is $600k base with easily triggered incentives that make the actual wage higher than $700k, the question has to be asked - why would St. Kilda do this??
It can only be because the VFL have orchestrated it this way to ensure no pick 2. It's clear the media have been pushing against pick 2 in Victoria. There has been a clear narrative about it.
So, by tabling this offer Crouch gets the deal he wants, but Crows miss out on pick 2. St. Kilda risk losing Crouch or pick 15, which doesn't seem to benefit them at all. Surely they just make it $700k+ and lock in pick 2 if they are going to end up paying that much anyway??

The only way this makes sense is if the AFL have orchestrated this to make sure we don't get pick 2. Nothing else about it makes any sense at all.
It stinks.

I'm not sure what everyone expects from the club?

As supporters and members, we are constantly demanding the club to be bold, make big plays for picks and players and we complain that we settle for mediocrity.

It looks to me like the club saw an opportunity to snag pick 2 and had a crack. Unfortunatly st.kilda playing ball was a variable and its looking like it didn't eventuate. Regardless on what happens now, whether he stays, we match or we take the compo, surely we have to understand that it won't be bout how it looks externally but what's the best outcome for the team.

I dont know what we could have done differently in the build up, I thought the club had managed this fairly well. But you can't please everybody and each scenario will get a group of people that microwave their memberships.

If we are even contemplating not matching and accepting pick 24 we would be far better off in getting rid of Sloane for a pick around that mark.

I'm sure someone in the window would want him (we pay part of his wage, like we seem to do of late)

Brad with a cheaper contact plus positive age/ability >>>>>> Sloane more expensive contract negative age/ability.

We can't go with Crouch x 2 and Sloane next season.
